We also offer a warm welcome to all visitors and invite those considering private medical and surgical treatment to meet with staff and view the hospital facilities. The Royston Centre, adjoining the hospital, provides specialist consulting rooms as well as physiotherapy and radiology facilities (including private MRI and CT). This is why Royston is the choice for so many Hawke's Bay people when it comes to specialist surgical treatment or medical care. The Acurity Health Group are proud to be members of the New Zealand Private Surgical Hospitals Association (NZPSHA) who represent the interests of private surgical hospitals within New Zealand.

This Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, we’re supporting the importance of raising awareness around bowel health, recognising the signs of bowel cancer, and encouraging early conversations and screening.

Early detection can save lives. If something doesn’t feel right — don’t wait to get checked.

Common symptoms can include:
• Changes in bowel habits
• Blood in the stool
• Ongoing abdominal discomfort
• Unexplained weight loss or fatigue
• Early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes and can save lives

Our specialists and hospital teams are committed to supporting patients with timely access to diagnosis, treatment, and care.

This month is also a reminder to have conversations with whānau and encourage regular screening where appropriate.

💙 Know the signs. Trust your instincts. Get checked.

On Thursday, 7 May, Royston Hospital had the pleasure of welcoming students from the Havelock North High School Robotics Club for a special demonstration of the Hugo™ Robotic-Assisted Surgery System console.

The group also heard from David Kyle from Medtronic, who shared insights into the future of robotic-assisted surgery and innovation in healthcare.

Students had the opportunity to get hands-on with the Hugo™ Robotic-Assisted Surgery System console, and we hope the experience has expanded their knowledge and sparked even more inspiration for their own robotics projects.

We’re proud to support the next generation of innovators and wish the team all the very best as they head to the Premier FIRST Tech Challenge Canada Cup of Robotics at Brock University in Niagara this June. Good luck team FIRST NZ Blackbots — we’ll be cheering you on! 👏

Royston Hospital is leading the way in advanced cancer care in Hawke’s Bay, with its first prostate cancer patient treated using low dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy.

This minimally invasive procedure uses tiny radioactive “seeds,” helping patients recover faster and return to everyday life sooner - a promising step forward for local treatment options.

Our sterile services staff play a vital role in ensuring our patients receive the best, safest care.

Their work often goes unseen, but they play a role in making sure our surgeons have the instruments they need. They are the first line of defence in infection control, need to have great attention to detail and play a big role in making our operating theatres run efficiently.
