A little look at a day on my plate during peak week

Five meals, plenty of prep and lots of greens! This is what my coach and I have planned for this particular stage of my competition prep—food and portions will look different for everyone. 🤍

When your hamstring pulls you up short…

This client came in 10 days after injuring the back of his thigh, with some impressive bruising.

Hamstring strains involve damage to muscle fibres. Bruising can develop over the following days and track down the leg, so where the colour appears isn’t always where the injury happened. And the colour alone doesn’t tell us how severe it is.

Without formal imaging, a definitive diagnosis cannot be made, but a presentation like this suggests a few distinct possibilities:
Grade 2 or Grade 3 Hamstring Tear
Distal Hamstring Tendon Rupture

So, what should you do?

🔴 Stop the activity and protect the area. Pushing through sharp pain won’t do you any favours.

👉 In the first few days, avoid deep massage, heat and forceful stretching. Compression and elevation can help with swelling; a wrapped cold pack may help with pain.

👉 Get assessed—especially with significant bruising, weakness or difficulty walking.

👉 Rehab means gradually rebuilding movement, strength and confidence. Start with comfortable movement and gentle muscle activation, then progress to strengthening, controlled lengthening exercises and the demands of your work or sport.

Massage may help with surrounding discomfort when appropriate, but progressive exercise is the foundation of rehab.

Less pain is progress. Being ready to sprint, lift or kick again takes a little more work.

A Shout-out To My Clients
You are my 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

You probably don’t realise just how much you make my day.

I’ve spent 23 weeks (nearly six months) in competition prep. There have been days when the tank is empty. Mentally exhausted, hungry, physically fatigued… some days are bloody hard.

But I s**t you not, the moment I walk into my clinic spaces, something shifts. I see your faces, we chat, have a laugh, and I get to do work I love. helping you feel and move better.

You come in for treatment, probably without giving a second thought to what you bring to my day. But your trust, your stories and your support mean more than you know.

You make the great days even greater, and on the harder days, you remind me what a privilege it is to do this work.

Thank you for being part of my world and letting me be part of yours.

You lot are my heroes.
Love Em xx 🤍

What I actually care about when you’re on my table

How you’re feeling, what’s been bothering you, and what you need from our time together.

I care about your comfort, your feedback and the little improvements that matter to you. Turning your head a little easier. Feeling less tense. Having a moment to catch your breath.

Some days we’ll have a specific area to work on. Other days, you might just need an hour where nobody needs anything from you. Both are welcome.

And hearing “that feels so much better” when you get off the table? That never gets old

A Little Welcome and Reintroduction

I’m Emma, the face and hands behind
The Muscle Suite.

To the OGs who’ve been here through the different chapters, thank you. And to the new faces, welcome, a few things about the person behind the treatments…

My brain goes a million miles an hour. I can get sidetracked talking about pretty much anything, but give me a proper deep conversation over small talk any day.

As much as I love connecting with people, I’m happiest in my own company. Crowds aren’t really my thing. A structured routine, solitude and a bit of peace? Very much my thing. A fair change from my former wild-child years, when I happily burnt the candle at both ends.

I begin and end each day with an intention or a prayer. A little moment to ground myself before the day gets going, and again when it’s done, I believe we always have something to be thankful for and setting the right tone for the day is important, if it doesn’t go to plan.

I’ll give almost anything a go once… although “once” is probably misleading. If I’m rubbish at it, I’ll keep trying until I’m at least competent. Turns out being a beginner is fine; accepting I might stay one is where I struggle.

Sport has been a huge part of my life, from competitive cycling to now stepping on a bodybuilding stage. Movement has taken many forms for me, and I’m still curious about what I’m capable of.

That curiosity carries into The Muscle Suite. I love understanding how bodies work, getting to know the person on the table, and helping people feel more comfortable and confident moving through their own lives.

So you’ll get a bit of everything here: massage, movement, bodybuilding, honest check-ins and things relating to our health and wellness.

With love
Em 🤍

IASTM – What’s happening beneath the skin? 🔍

Two clients, two very different lifestyles, but both experiencing muscular tightness and restricted movement.

Client 1 | Physical workload 🔨
A tradie and business owner, spending long days lifting, bending and putting his body under physical load. We’re working on thoracic and lower back tightness using a combination of IASTM and cupping.

Client 2 | Desk-based workload 💻
Long hours sitting, with acute tightness through the neck, shoulders and upper back. Our focus is on reducing discomfort and improving mobility.

So, what is IASTM?

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation uses specialised tools to apply controlled pressure and movement to soft tissue.

Potential benefits include:

* Improving short-term range of motion
* Reducing muscular discomfort and perceived tightness
* Supporting easier, more comfortable movement
* Complementing hands-on treatment and movement rehabilitation

Why does the skin turn red? 🔴

That redness is called erythema, a temporary response caused by increased superficial blood flow and mechanical stimulation of the skin.

More pronounced marks can also involve tiny broken capillaries (petechiae).

Important: Redness isn’t a sign of toxins being released, adhesions breaking down or a more effective treatment.

Every body responds differently, and more redness doesn’t mean better results.

At The Muscle Suite, treatment isn’t just about where you’re feeling tight. It’s about understanding why, how your body is being loaded and what we can do to support better movement long term.

WHAT ARE YOUR CUPPING MARKS ACTUALLY TELLING US? 👀

Ever wondered why some cupping marks are light pink, while others are deep red or purple?

There’s a little more to those circles than meets the eye!

Cupping therapy uses negative pressure (suction) to lift the skin and superficial tissues, creating a local response that can include increased blood flow and temporary changes in tissue sensitivity.

So, what do the different colours mean?

🔴 Light pink/red: A mild response to suction, with temporary increased blood flow to the area.

🟣 Dark red/purple: More noticeable superficial bleeding beneath the skin, caused by tiny blood vessels responding to the suction.

⭕ Different colours across the body: These can reflect variations in suction pressure, application time, skin characteristics and individual vascular responses.

Here’s what I really want you to understand…

Darker marks don’t necessarily mean tighter muscles, more toxins, greater inflammation or a more effective treatment.

And contrary to popular belief, cupping isn’t about drawing toxins out of the body!

As a Massage & Movement Therapist, I use cupping as one of several tools to complement hands-on treatment, with the aim of influencing tissue sensitivity, improving comfort and supporting movement.

The marks are simply a visible response to the treatment, not a measure of how much your body needed it.

Most marks gradually fade over several days, although some can last longer.

The goal isn’t to leave the darkest marks. It’s to help you move and feel better.

RED LIGHT THERAPY

Another little addition to your treatments at The Muscle Suite – The Barn.

Red and near-infrared light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, uses specific wavelengths of light that interact with cells and may support normal cellular and tissue processes.

Some of the potential benefits being researched include:

* Supporting muscle recovery following training and exercise
* Helping temporarily reduce muscle soreness and discomfort
* Supporting circulation and local blood flow
* Potentially assisting tissue recovery and repair
* Supporting the body’s inflammatory response
* Promoting skin health and collagen production
* A gentle, non-invasive addition to your overall recovery routine

For me, it’s not about adding something simply because it’s “trending.” It’s about continuing to build treatments that combine hands-on therapy, movement and evidence-informed recovery tools to support the individual in front of me.

And yes… it also feels pretty damn good lying under it while having your treatment. ❤️‍🔥

WHERE HAVE I BEEN? 🤍

Quiet on social media. Very much not quiet behind the scenes.

For the past few months, and especially these final weeks, I’ve deliberately narrowed my world down. Running The Muscle Suite, looking after my clients, training, eating, recovering and preparing for my first Figure stage.

And now… we’re heading into PEAK WEEK.

The physique you’re seeing right now is the result of months of repetition. Nothing particularly glamorous — just doing what needs to be done, over and over again.

At the moment, my days are basically:

CLIENTS → EAT → TRAIN → CARDIO → EAT → POSE → RECOVER → SLEEP → REPEAT.

🏋🏽‍♀️ Weights: 5 days per week
❤️ Cardio: 80 minutes on weight-training days / 90 minutes on rest days
👠 Posing: Every. Single. Day.
🥗 Nutrition: planned, prepped and eaten consistently — food is fuel right now
💆🏽‍♀️ Recovery: massage, sauna, stretching and mobility wherever I can fit it in
😴 Sleep: currently terrible — probably the least impressive part of my prep 😂
💼 Work: still treating and looking after my beautiful Muscle Suite clients throughout it all.

Physically, I’m now very lean, vascular and dry — exactly where my coach and I want me coming into peak week. The goal from here isn’t about trying to dramatically change the physique. It’s about bringing everything together and presenting the months of work underneath it.

And yes, I still eat. 😂
My meals might be structured and calculated for this specific phase of prep, but there is still plenty of real, nutritious food going in.

What these photos don’t show particularly well is the mental side of prep. The planning. The repetition. The tiredness. Training when you’re flat. Getting cardio done after a full clinic day. Preparing tomorrow’s meals when you’d rather go to bed. Practising the same poses again and again until they become automatic.

Social media simply hasn’t been the priority.

My clients have. My business has. And for this little chapter, getting myself to that stage has.

One more week.

Time to see what all of this work looks like under the stage lights. 🖤

PEAK WEEK — LET’S GO

It’s my therapy as much as yours \\

The beauty of the body is the language you allow it to teach you. In every treatment, there’s always something new the muscles teach, the breath speaks or the joints whisper and sometimes creak.
Massage for me is art, different strokes, depths, hand placements and body movements. Your body carries a lifetime of stories. I simply have the privilege of helping turn the pages, uncovering what it’s been trying to say all along.
