Our own Gail Stoltenberg is volunteering with the Aberdeen Area Arts Council this season, and we could not be prouder! Gail shows up for Aberdeen kids and families every chance she gets. She gives her time, her heart and her energy, and she always does it with a smile. Gail, you make Aberdeen better, and you make Opus better. Thank you! 🙌

It reminds us of our friends Dan & Angie Cleberg at Red Rooster Coffee House ☕❤️ For almost 30 years they've built a warm place where everyone is welcome. It's more than coffee. It's the heart of downtown.

They're teaching, coaching, answering every question, and sharing what they know — all so our team can give Aberdeen's kids the very best care. And of course, we took a break the right way: around one big table.

Labor Day was created to honor the people who do the work. So today, we're naming ours. 🤍

To our RBTs — who kneel on living-room floors every day and make the hardest things feel like play.

To our BCBAs — behind every plan, every late-night adjustment, every breakthrough that looks sudden but took months of careful work.

To our office team — the calls answered, the claims fought, the schedules juggled. None of this runs without you.

To our parents — working the one job that never clocks out, and showing up again every single morning.

And to our kids — the hardest workers of all, one brave try at a time.

The first Labor Day was a march of workers asking for one simple thing: that their work be seen and respected. Today, we see yours.

Thank you. Today is yours — rest well.

They called it the "refrigerator mother" theory. This is what our refrigerators look like. 🧊❤️

A piece of autism history every parent should know:

For roughly thirty years — from the 1940s into the 1970s — leading doctors claimed autism was caused by cold, unloving mothers. They called it the "refrigerator mother" theory. It was printed in bestselling books and repeated on national television. Families were told, to their faces, that they had done this to their own child.

There was never any real evidence. Not one controlled study. Just interpretation dressed up as science.

And here's the part we love: the person who finally proved it wrong wasn't a famous doctor. It was a dad.

Bernard Rimland was a psychologist raising an autistic son. In 1964 he published a book showing, carefully and clearly, that autism is biological — rooted in the brain, not in parenting. The medical world was slow to listen. Parents weren't. He helped found the Autism Society of America the very next year, and the science eventually caught up with him.

Today it's settled: autism is neurodevelopmental and largely genetic. It is not caused by how you held your baby, how much you worked, or how warm you were. It is never a parent's fault.

So if you've ever carried a quiet "was it me?" — set it down. You did not cause this. And you don't have to walk it alone.
