This month, we hosted our Annual Conference & Expo, and each year, one of the most meaningful parts of this event is celebrating the individuals who give so much to New York’s long-term care community.

These awards recognize the volunteers and staff in our member skilled nursing and assisted living facilities who are nominated and honored by their peers, the people who work beside them, see their dedication firsthand, and understand the difference they make in the lives of residents every day.

Please give a warm round of applause for Sandy Hogan, Senior Adult Volunteer of the Year.

Sandy has volunteered at The Maplewood Nursing & Rehabilitation in Webster for the past five years, spending quality time with residents and offering companionship, conversation, and friendship.

She has a special gift for making people feel valued, included, and cared for, and we are proud to recognize the heart she brings to skilled nursing.

We appreciate you, Sandy! Congratulations! 👏 👏 👏

The American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living Congressional Briefing is underway this week, and we are on Capitol Hill meeting with key leaders, including Senator Chuck Schumer, to advocate for stronger investment in long-term care.

Our message is clear: New York’s skilled nursing and assisted living communities need the support and resources necessary to strengthen the workforce, advance quality care, and continue caring for the resilient staff and wonderful residents who make this work so important.

Thank you, Congressman Nick Langworthy, for taking the time to meet with us during the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living Congressional Briefing. It was a pleasure speaking with you and sharing more about the challenges facing New York’s long-term care community.

Our assisted living and skilled nursing providers continue to need meaningful investment and stronger workforce opportunities so they can support staff, strengthen care teams, and ensure residents receive the high-quality care they deserve.

Day 2 did not slow down.

We covered so much ground today that it is hard to capture it all in one post, from big-picture leadership and workforce challenges to the everyday issues shaping skilled nursing and assisted living.

Thank you to all of our speakers for sharing your insight, energy, and unique perspective with our attendees. There was a lot to take in and even more to bring back home.

A beautiful afternoon celebrating the people who make long-term care stronger every day.

Today’s Chairperson’s Awards Lunch gave us the chance to recognize honorees nominated by their peers for their hard work, leadership, and commitment to residents in skilled nursing and assisted living communities across New York and to recognize The Foundation for Quality Care's 25th year.

Congratulations to all of our award recipients, including Girl Scout Troop 1331 from the Bronx, our Group Volunteer of the Year awardees. We were so glad to welcome you to Albany and to the 77th Annual Conference & Expo.

We appreciate every honoree, including those who could not make the trip.

Your dedication is inspiring, and your impact is felt every day.

The NYSHFA | NYSCAL 77th Annual Conference & Expo is officially underway!

A big round of applause for today’s opening keynote speaker, Peter Murphy Lewis, who helped us kick off the conference with his powerful stories and a message that speaks directly to the heart of long-term care: the story inside the work matters more than the task itself.

His experience working alongside caregivers for the People Worth Caring About documentary reminds us that the most meaningful work is rooted in preserving dignity and amplifying the stories that deserve to be heard.
