💪 Friday Fitness Fact

Today I'm sharing two powerful reminders:
✨ The benefits of hip and leg compression recovery therapy
✨ 6 legitimate reasons to take a rest day

⚠️ Not every missed workout is laziness. Sometimes, taking a day off is exactly what your body needs.

1. 🤒 You're Actually Sick

If you have a fever, flu, infection, or symptoms below the neck, prioritize recovery. Your body needs its energy to heal—not to exercise.

2. 🍽️ You Haven't Fueled Your Body

Running on empty can lead to poor performance, dizziness, and increased injury risk. Nourish first, then move.

3. 😴 You Got Little or No Sleep

A less-than-perfect night is one thing. But severe sleep deprivation affects coordination, recovery, and decision-making. Rest is often the best choice.

4. ⚠️ You're Experiencing Pain, Not Soreness

Muscle soreness is normal. Sharp, stabbing, or joint pain is not. Listen to your body and modify, pause, or seek guidance when needed.

5. 💙 You're Emotionally Overwhelmed

Stress impacts the body too. Sometimes a walk, stretching session, prayer, meditation, or deep breathing is more beneficial than an intense workout.

6. 🔋 You're Overtraining

Persistent fatigue, declining performance, poor recovery, and lack of motivation may be signs that your body is asking for a break.

🌱 Remember: Rest is not weakness. Recovery is part of the training plan.

The goal isn't just to exercise today—it's to stay healthy, strong, and active for years to come.

😴 Thursday Tell: A Root-Cause Success Story

One of my patients came to me frustrated after waking up every night for years between 2–4 AM and struggling to fall back asleep.

Rather than immediately turning to a sleep medication, we decided to dig deeper and look for the root cause.

Using a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) for two weeks, we uncovered something unexpected: overnight blood sugar drops were triggering a stress response, causing cortisol levels to rise and interrupt her sleep.

With a few targeted nutrition and lifestyle adjustments, my patient began to experience:

✅ Fewer nighttime awakenings
✅ More restorative sleep
✅ Improved daytime energy and focus

Sleep is essential for physical recovery, mental clarity, hormone balance, and overall well-being. While sleep challenges can have many causes, this story is a reminder that symptoms often point to something deeper.

Sometimes the answer isn't another medication—it's understanding what's happening beneath the surface.

Did you know that nearly 45% of dementia cases may be preventable or delayed by addressing modifiable risk factors throughout life?

The latest Lancet Commission Report added two new risk factors to the list:

👓 Untreated vision loss
❤️ High LDL (“bad”) cholesterol

As someone who spends a lot of time encouraging patients to prioritize preventive care, this was another reminder for me to schedule my own eye exam!

Many people think dementia prevention begins later in life, but brain health starts much earlier. The good news is that many risk factors are within our control.

✅ Stay physically active
✅ Control blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar
✅ Protect your hearing and vision
✅ Avoid smoking
✅ Limit alcohol
✅ Maintain a healthy weight
✅ Stay socially connected
✅ Keep learning and challenging your brain
