Not all endometriosis surgeries are the same, and neither is the experience behind them. For more than three decades, the Center for Endometriosis Care has emphasized the importance of specialized expertise, multidisciplinary collaboration, and extensive surgical experience in the treatment of complex disease. Another recent study reinforces the value of that approach, finding that patients undergoing complex endometriosis surgery experienced fewer severe complications when treated at higher-volume centers. https://www.centerforendo.com/what-to-ask-your-dr

Endometriosis is a chronic, systemic inflammatory disease that can affect the whole body in profound and intersecting ways. Yet many who live with it face years being told symptoms are “normal” while pain, fatigue, inflammation, GI and/or urinary distress, bleeding, diminished quality of life, and so much more continue. The greatest barrier in care is not a patient's willingness to seek help - it's the gap between the patient being heard, their symptoms being recognized, and being given timely referrals to appropriate specialty care.

Many individuals with endometriosis must navigate dismissal, delayed diagnosis, insurance obstacles, and many other barriers long before they ever reach experienced, multidisciplinary treatment like ours. As a result, too many living with the disease often find themselves continuing to work, attend school, provide caregiving for others, and show up ("functioning" does not equal "wellness"!) - all while trying to manage their own pain, exhaustion and other more...frequently through years of medical navigation going on behind the scenes. Earlier recognition, informed referral pathways, and access to skilled multidisciplinary care matter.

If you are struggling and seeking evaluation, you DON'T need a referral to pursue care with us. Dr. Sinervo and Dr. Eugenio are always happy to offer a free record review consult, and our team is always here to help guide you or someone you care about through our process of becoming a patient with compassion and support. 🎗️🩵May is National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. Since 1984, the designation has raised awareness about the impact of asthma, allergies, and related immune-mediated conditions. For the community, this awareness month also highlights a longstanding and well-documented area of research: the association between endometriosis and allergic and inflammatory conditions.🎗️🩵 CenterForEndo.com

Non-endo but of possible interest to our friends who live with the condition. - "Following what the authors called an unprecedented, rigorous, multistep global consensus process, Polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) has a new name: Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS)."

According to a publication in The Lancet, a multistep process was used to generate a new name to avoid misleading references to ovarian cysts while accurately reflecting the condition's diverse features.

Inadequate training and limited familiarity with can increase the risk of missed disease, incomplete surgery, inappropriate reassurance, delayed diagnosis, and ongoing patient suffering. At the Center for Endometriosis Care, our surgeons have decades of high-volume experience treating all forms of the disease, focusing exclusively on the diagnosis and advanced excision of endometriosis along with treatment of overlapping surgical gynepathologies. Biopsies are always performed because visual inspection alone does not reliably exclude variably presenting disease - and because patients deserve to know what was found. Dedicated expertise matters - particularly for a systemic disease where what is missed can profoundly impact quality of life. Dr. José D. Eugenio-Colón - DrEndometriosis

You shouldn't have to “earn” diagnosis and effective treatments by becoming sicker or accumulating more symptoms first. Pain that disrupts your life, fatigue that steals your functioning, GI and urinary symptoms, collapsed lung, painful s*x, infertility, and more along with years of dismissal are not things you should be expected to normalize. Endometriosis is a complex, systemic disease - not a character test in endurance. You deserve early diagnosis, timely and effective care, accurate information, and to be taken seriously the first time you speak up - not after years of suffering and being forced to “try something else” first. That's why at the Center for Endometriosis Care, our surgeons believe patients deserve evidence-based treatment grounded in compassion, clinical expertise, and recognition of the full complexity of this disease - without having to spend years getting worse before finally being heard.
