In this week's episode I talk about Jerry. He was four years post-stroke when I met him, and his world had gotten tiny. He felt that traditional rehabilitation and speech therapy didn't fully preparing him for real-world challenges, and didn't see his own responsibility in getting back to himself.
Three things came out of that conversation.
- His world shrank because shame was driving it, not aphasia recovery.
- The people around him pulled back because they were following his lead.
- And his voice had literally gotten softer over four years because he had decided he was less worth hearing.
Once he saw those three things, everything changed. I walk you through what we did next. You can start this week.
