A survey conducted by the American Foundation for the Blind asked 1,735 adults with and without disabilities about their experiences using artificial intelligence (AI) in their everyday lives.
The survey found that people use AI in many different ways, including voice-activated AI (Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant), note-taking and writing, workplace tasks, learning, applying for jobs, and even psychotherapy.
Despite these benefits, people are concerned about the potential harms of AI in various contexts, including inaccessible AI systems used in hiring, bias in AI-integrated health care systems, harms related to AI psychotherapy, and inaccuracies in AI-generated information. A majority of participants also raised concerns about privacy when AI has access to their sensitive information.
