🐾 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐲! 🐾

Today, we're celebrating the incredible dogs who bring joy, comfort, companionship, and unconditional love into our lives. Whether they're mutts, mixes, purebreds, rescue pups, or somewhere in between, dogs enrich our lives in countless ways and remind us of the power of connection. National Dog Day encourages us to appreciate dogs of all breeds and to consider adoption when looking for a new furry family member.

At Spencer Psychology, we see firsthand how meaningful the human-animal bond can be. Dogs can help reduce stress and anxiety, provide emotional support, and help people feel more at ease during difficult moments. That's one reason we're especially grateful for our registered therapy dog, 𝐎𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞, who helps create a welcoming, comforting environment for many of our clients.

Today we're also excited to feature some of our team members' beloved dogs, each with their own unique personality and special place in our hearts. ❤️

𝐇𝐈𝐏 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐀𝐐: 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐇𝐈𝐏 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬?
Most HIP members ages 19–64 must meet work requirements unless they qualify for an exemption. HIP members do not have to meet the work requirements for a month if, for at least one day that month, you:
📌Are under 26 and were formerly in foster care.
📌Are a member of a federally recognized Tribe.
📌Are a parent or caregiver of a child age 13 or younger.
📌Are a caregiver of a person with a disability.
📌Are a veteran with a total (100%) disability rating.
📌Are pregnant, or it has been 12 months or less since your pregnancy ended.
📌Are in jail or prison or were released in the last 90 days.
📌Are following the work rules for SNAP or TANF.
📌Are in a drug or alcohol treatment program.
📌Are medically frail or have special medical needs. This includes:
📌Being blind or having a disability.
📌Having a substance use disorder.
📌Having a serious mental health condition
📌Having a serious physical, intellectual, or developmental disability.
📌Having another serious or complex medical condition.
📌Other exemptions may also apply.

When children don't yet have the words to express their thoughts, worries, or big feelings, play can become their language.

Our play therapists use carefully selected toys, activities, and evidence-based techniques to help children process emotions, build coping skills, strengthen relationships, and work through challenges in a way that feels natural and safe for them.

This photo captures Melissa getting ready for the next child she gets to support. Every toy put away and every space prepared is part of creating an environment where healing, growth, and connection can happen.

📚Book Recommendation!📚
Practice manager Sara recommends "All My Stripes: A Story for Children with Autism" by Shaina Rudolph and Danielle Royer. "This is a great book for kids on the spectrum, their siblings, and even classmates/friends of kids on the spectrum. The story follows Zane, a Zebra, through a tough day at school, highlighting the places where he struggled. He's worried his classmates will only see his struggles and challenges, but his mom helps point out his strengths and helps him appreciate "all his stripes" including his "Autism stripe"."

For many people, it’s a way of staying safe—not a sign of having it all together.
