Shoulder pain can be sneaky. A 'normal' x-ray is hardly proof of no injury, as seen in this most recent study. In the study it shows two simple tests you can do yourself to determine if there was rotator cuff damage after an injury.

With a detailed exam and MSK ultrasound when appropriate, we can take a closer look at the tendons and soft tissues that may be contributing to pain, weakness, or limited function.

A Brief History of Shockwave Therapy in Healthcare

In over 25 years in healthcare, we’ve seen a lot come and go. There always seems to be a new “life hack” or breakthrough treatment around the corner. Some turn out to be helpful, some a little questionable… and some are downright wallet-ectomies.

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is different.

Shockwave has actually been around in medicine since the 1980s, originally developed to treat kidney stones—a procedure known as lithotripsy. While using shockwaves to break up stones, clinicians began noticing something unexpected: surrounding tissues showed signs of improved healing and regeneration.

That observation sparked decades of research.

By the 1990s and early 2000s, shockwave therapy began expanding into orthopedics, particularly for chronic tendon conditions like plantar fasciitis and tennis elbow. Over time, research demonstrated that shockwave can:

Stimulate blood flow (angiogenesis)
Activate cellular repair processes
Reduce pain signaling
Improve tissue regeneration

Ten years ago, we were in the middle of build-out delays, some uncertainty, and a whole lot of patience. I remember someone commenting, “Take a breath… five years will go by before you know it.”

They were right.

Five years passed.
And then five more.

What felt like a frustrating season at the time has turned into a decade of growth, relationships, and deep roots here in Bluffton.

When we made the move to our new location, we hoped we would be welcomed into the community. What we found was something even better — support, camaraderie, encouragement, and a Main Street that truly feels like family.

We are incredibly grateful for every patient who has trusted us, every neighbor who has stopped in to say hello, and every fellow small business owner who makes this town special.
