Advancing lymphoma research—one discovery at a time.

This past month, members of the Dana-Farber Lymphoma Program presented their latest research at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Advances in Malignant Lymphoma Meeting in Philadelphia.

Our researchers shared new findings focused on understanding how the follicular lymphoma tumor environment changes upon transformation to aggressive lymphoma and exploring ways to improve the effectiveness of immunotherapy for patients with follicular lymphoma.

While these studies are still in the research stage, they represent important steps toward developing more personalized and effective treatments in the future.

Congratulations to Dr. Matthew Davids!

We are pleased to share that Dr. Matthew Davids has been named the next incumbent of the Harold and Virginia Lash Endowed Chair in Lymphoma Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Dr. Davids recently became Chief of the Division of Lymphoma and is an internationally recognized leader in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and lymphoma research. His work focuses on advancing targeted therapies and developing new strategies to improve treatment for patients.

The Harold and Virginia Lash Endowed Chair will provide flexible support to help Dr. Davids and his team advance innovative research and accelerate the development of more effective treatments for patients with lymphoma.

Congratulations to Dr. Davids on this well-deserved honor and thank you to the Lash family for their continued commitment to lymphoma research.

Meet Paolo Ghia, MD, PhD, scientific director of our Marginal Zone Lymphoma Center. His research helps develop more effective treatment options that improve patient outcomes and reduce toxicities for patients with marginal zone lymphoma. His trials are developed by identifying needs or opportunities based on findings from laboratory research. These investigator-initiated trials may offer patients access to new and emerging therapies before they are available elsewhere with a focus that aims to improve outcomes and limit side effects. Austin Kim, MD, key clinical advisor of the Mantle Cell Lymphoma Center, discusses the MAVO trial for patients who have not received prior treatment for their lymphoma. This trial aims to look at effective and well tolerated treatments that do not rely on chemotherapy especially for patients with a genetic change called a TP53 mutation that may not respond well to standard chemotherapy.

A unique aspect of this trial is that it offers the possibility of stopping treatment if a complete remission is achieved and no microscopic disease is detected in the blood using a test called minimal residual disease (MRD).

Matthew S. Davids, MD, MMSc, was recently appointed as Chief of the Division of Lymphoma, recognizing his longstanding leadership in clinical research, patient care, and innovation in blood cancer treatment.

“It is an honor to lead the Division of Lymphoma at Dana-Farber. I look forward to supporting our extraordinary team to better understand the biology underlying lymphoma, advance innovative therapies, and continue improving outcomes for patients with lymphoma and related diseases,” said Dr.Davids.

Dr.Davids has been a member of our faculty since 2011 and most recently served as Director of Clinical Research in the Division of Lymphoma and Associate Director of the Center for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Over the last 15 years, Dr. Davids has helped shape the institution’s approach to lymphoma and CLL care through a combination of research and clinical leadership. In his new role, Dr. Davids will oversee one of the nation’s leading lymphoma programs, guiding clinical care, research strategy, and faculty development across the division.
