๐ŸŽ™๏ธ EPISODE 4 IS LIVE: "Perception - Wall or Window?" ๐Ÿ’œ

Y'all... this one hit DIFFERENT.

This is the episode where I brought my girl Je T'aime Michelle-Feagin on the show, and we had the kind of conversation that happens when two women who GET each other just... talk.

You know those friendships where you don't talk every day, but when you connect, it's DEEP? Where your kids are yelling at you to bring your behind in the house because it's been an hour and a half and you're still standing outside talking?

That's THIS.

We talked about:

โœจ PERCEPTION: Are you looking at a wall or a window? When life backs you into a corner, are you seeing a dead end or are you looking for the exit?

๐Ÿ’” GRIEF: Je T'aime just lost her grandmother two weeks ago - the woman who showed her unconditional agape love and taught her that every day has a purpose.

๐Ÿ’ช WOMANHOOD: "Being a woman doesn't give you the option to be tired. Because as long as you got breath in your body, you gotta get up and do it. If you don't do it, it will not get done."

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ SINGLE MOTHERHOOD: Navigating divorce, raising two kids with a 10-year gap, and trying to "reintroduce myself to myself."

๐Ÿ–ค RAISING BLACK SONS: The fear. The impossible positions. The "he's not a threat but people see him as one" reality. The balance between protection and freedom.

๐Ÿ‘ซ FRIENDSHIP WITHOUT PRESSURE: "I don't have to call you all the time for you to know I got your back. When we meet, we do what we do and move on."

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ RAISING WELL-ROUNDED SONS: Teaching boys to cook so they don't call you 20 years later complaining their wife can't make it like mama. Breaking gender roles. Giving them choices.

๐Ÿ’– CHOSEN FAMILY: Her grandmother wasn't biological, but she loved her like she was. "It takes a special kind of person to love on somebody as if they're theirs."

REAL TALK MOMENTS:

"I'm an optimist. My glass is always half full, regardless of what obstacles I face." - Je T'aime

"You're the person that looks at the window, not the wall." - Me to Je T'aime

"When I come to the back of a wall, I'm always looking for an exit." - Je T'aime

"Some people say they're tired and they quit. I don't know what it's like to do that. I'm jealous of those people." - Je T'aime

"She was the first person that showed up at my book signing. She was No. 1." - Me about Je T'aime

WHY I LOVE THIS EPISODE:

Because it's REAL. It's not polished. It's not scripted. It's two women who've been through LIFE talking about how we survive, how we keep going, how we find hope when everything feels hard.

Je T'aime just finalized a long divorce.
She just buried her grandmother.
She's raising two kids alone.
And she STILL shows up with a smile, looking fly, being everybody's cheerleader.

That's the kind of strength we don't talk about enough.

That's the kind of friendship that saves lives.

That's the kind of perception - choosing the window over the wall - that gets you through.

If you're going through something right now and you're wondering how you're going to keep going, WATCH THIS.

If you have that one friend who always shows up, TAG THEM. Let them know they matter.

If you're trying to raise good humans in a scary world, WATCH THIS.

If you need to be reminded that you're not alone in your struggle, WATCH THIS.

Had to share this one. They briefly dealt with Youth Mental Health in this episode.

The Juneteenth of Buffalo Podcast just dropped its PILOT EPISODE - and it did NOT come to play. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Jayvon sat down with Austin Martin and they gave us everything with no filter, no fluff. Just real talk about freedom, our youth, our elders, and where we're headed as a people.

"We need more people planting trees they will never sit in the shade of."

50 years of Juneteenth in Buffalo. This podcast is the next chapter.

๐ŸŽง Dropping Soon! Go listen. Share it. Let's keep this conversation going.

Perception - Wall or Window? ๐Ÿ’ฌ "You're the person that looks at the window, not the wall."

That's what I told my girl Miss Je T'aime Michelle-Feagin before I asked her to be my first guest on Mental Greatness.

Because even though she's going through it - finalized a long divorce, lost her grandmother 2 weeks ago, raising two kids alone - she STILL finds the exit. She STILL sees the opportunity. She STILL shows up.

In Episode 4, we talk about:
- Perception (wall vs. window)
- The exhaustion of being a woman who can't stop
- Raising Black sons in a world that sees them as threats
- Friendship without pressure
- Chosen family and unconditional love
- How her grandmother taught her that every day has a purpose

This is the girlfriend conversation you need to hear today.

Real. Raw. No script. Just two women who get each other.

Episode 4 is LIVE. Watch it. Tag your ride-or-die. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ EPISODE 3: "Youth Depression, COVID's Impact & Stolen Innocence" IS LIVE

This one hit different. This one hurt to record. But this conversation is NECESSARY.

Let's talk about what COVID really did to our kids. Not just the missed school. Not just the masks. Not just the virtual learning.I'm talking about the INNOCENCE that was stolen.

๐Ÿ“บ WHAT KIDS SAW DURING COVID:

- Government officials acting like high school bullies
- Their parents financially struggling (many for the first time)
- Healthcare workers dying on the front lines with no recognition
- "Leaders" suggesting people drink bleach to cure a virus
- The people running the country fighting like teenagers

And we wonder why youth depression is at an all-time high?

Here's what I break down in this episode:

โœ… THE TEACHER PROBLEM: Why some educators' refusal to learn new technology was hypocritical and damaged kids' respect for them

โœ… GOVERNMENTAL BULLYING: How watching adults in power bully each other shattered kids' hope for the future ("So THIS is what I'm aspiring to?")

โœ… FINANCIAL REALITY: How kids realized their parents were broke and started thinking about things they shouldn't have to worry about

โœ… CAREER DREAMS CRUSHED: How COVID changed the way kids look at careers (being a nurse went from "good idea" to trauma)

โœ… MY PERSONAL ANXIETY: How Iโ€”someone who NEVER had anxietyโ€”started having panic attacks going to work

โœ… KIDS & PANIC: How my son graduated in a parking lot and then had panic attacks going back to school

โœ… GAMING AS MENTAL HEALTH: Why gaming is actually one of the healthiest escapes (fight me on this ๐Ÿ˜‚)

โœ… KIDS AREN'T WORSE: They're the same as they've always beenโ€”we just SEE it more now

โœ… MENTAL HEALTH DOCUMENTATION: Why it's not that depression is "bigger" nowโ€”it's that we're finally NAMING it and TALKING about it

โœ… ONLINE COMMUNITY: Why I think it's WONDERFUL that kids can find their people online now

REAL TALK FROM THE EPISODE:

"If I'm an adult who never had anxiety, never suffered from clinical depression, all of a sudden has anxietyโ€”what the hell are teenagers going through?"

"COVID stole childhood innocence. They ended up with too much information and seen too much."

"A kid is not supposed to think about that stuff. They're just not. They stole his innocence."

This episode is REAL. It's RAW. It's NECESSARY.

If you're a parent struggling to understand your kid's anxiety or depression, WATCH THIS.

If you're a young person trying to put words to what you've been feeling, WATCH THIS.

If you think "kids today are just soft," WATCH THIS and check yourself.

โš ๏ธ CONTENT NOTE: This episode discusses youth mental health, COVID trauma, anxiety, panic attacks, and includes crisis resources.

"Now there's an internet world where whatever it is that is supposedly different, or feelings you have, or aspirations you haveโ€”it's all at your fingertips. I think it's wonderful. These kids can find a community."
- Retha Jones (RJandThenSome)

Before the internet, if you felt different and couldn't find YOUR people in your neighborhood, school, or familyโ€”you were alone.

Now? Your people are out there. And you can FIND them.

That's not dangerous. That's LIFE-SAVING.

Can we talk about something COVID exposed that we don't talk about enough?

๐Ÿ’ฐ KIDS FINDING OUT THEIR PARENTS ARE BROKE

During COVID, kids were home. Parents were home. And suddenly, kids saw things they weren't supposed to see.

Most people don't have a big savings account just sitting around. But kids don't KNOW that.

If you worked overtime when you needed extra money, you just picked up a shift. Done.

But COVID? Everything shut down. No overtime. No extra shifts. Couldn't even go to the bank.

And kids realized: "Wait. Mom and dad are broke as hell. They've been living paycheck to paycheck."

Now kids are thinking about stuff they shouldn't have to think about.

I know because I WAS that kid. I knew my mom was broke, so I didn't ask for things I NEEDED. Not wantedโ€”NEEDED.

I didn't give her the OPTION to decide because I assumed it would be a burden.

And you know what that does? It pushes kids to do risky things.

Girls thinking, "I gotta talk to this older guy who says he'll take care of me."
Boys thinking, "I gotta go hustle. Mom's already struggling."

COVID forced financial conversations that happened too early, in the wrong context, with too much fear attached.

Kids should have AWARENESS of finances. But they shouldn't WORRY about it. That's OUR job as parents.

But COVID blurred those lines.

If you're a parent who struggled financially during COVID, and your kids saw itโ€”that's not your fault. You survived a pandemic. Give yourself grace.

But also CHECK IN with your kids. They might be carrying financial anxiety you don't even realize.

Ask: "What do you remember most about COVID?"
Listen without defending.
Let them process.

They saw more than we think they did.
