Congratulations to Hannah Boyd, recipient of a DAISY Award! Hannah was nominated by the family of a patient whose life she touched through years of oncology care.

"She cared for Grandma just like she was one of us," the nominator shared. From answering questions promptly to checking in during nursing home and hospital stays, Hannah's dedication helped a patient and her loved ones feel supported every step of the way.

💙 Three nominations. One extraordinary caregiver.

Please join us in congratulating Karen West, recipient of the SIH Nursing TONI Award.
Receiving a TONI Award nomination is an honor. Receiving three separate nominations from patients and families is something truly special.

One patient shared how Karen helped them through chemotherapy during one of the most difficult times in their life. When they felt isolated and overwhelmed, Karen offered kindness, friendship and support. A simple greeting, a reassuring touch and a willingness to answer questions made a lasting difference.

Another family nominated Karen because of the compassion she showed their grandmother over the years. They said Karen always treated her with the same love and care she would give her own family.

A third nomination praised Karen's dedication to her oncology patients, sharing how she consistently responded to needs quickly, answered questions and continued checking on their loved one even when she was no longer under her direct care.
Why does this matter? Because when you're facing a serious illness or supporting someone who is, the people providing care become part of your story. The caregivers who take time to listen, encourage and show genuine compassion can make all the difference.

Karen's nurturing spirit, integrity, optimism and commitment to others embody everything the TONI Award represents.

Thank you to Marion Subaru for delivering 80 blankets to the SIH Cancer Institute through the Subaru Loves to Care program.
These 80 blankets represent warmth and comfort for neighbors undergoing treatment. They serve as reminders of community support from people they may never meet. Sometimes the smallest gestures make the biggest difference.

A familiar face at the SIH Breast Center in Carbondale now has a lot more free time. Mammography tech Lynn Flanagan has spent 35 years at SIH serving patients from all across Southern Illinois.

You might still see her from time to time. Even though she's "retiring" Lynn will still pick up some shifts from time to time at the Breast Center.
