For many women in their 40s and early 50s, there comes a moment when carrying everything the way they always have suddenly becomes harder than it used to be.
For years the body compensated. The chemistry held things together even when the load was too heavy. Then the hormonal shifts of perimenopause began to alter that chemistry, and the executive function issues that were quietly present all along lost their buffer.
It did not mean something was broken. It meant the system had been running without enough support for a very long time, and the body finally said so.
This is one of the most consistent patterns I see in clinical practice and one of the most underaddressed. This week's blog is for anyone who recognizes themselves in that description.

Here is the best way I have found to explain what is happening in the body when executive function breaks down.
You are driving down the road, running five minutes behind, and you get stuck behind someone going ten miles per hour below the speed limit. There is nowhere to pass. They are completely oblivious. The frustration builds. You start having conversations with a driver who cannot hear you. You cannot think straight. You are making choices driven entirely by the pressure of the moment rather than by clear calm judgment.
That is exactly what Liver Ki stagnation feels like from the inside.
And here is the deeper truth. In that moment of frustration, you are trying to steer a car. But in actuality you are in a boat, flowing down the river of life. And a car will do you no good there.
Executive function at its best is not about forcing and controlling. It is about flow.

There is a particular kind of frustration that comes with feeling like your own mind is working against you.
You sit down to start a task and find yourself doing three other things instead. You have a list of things to accomplish and by the end of the day most of them are halfway done, abandoned mid-stream for something else that pulled your attention.
You know what you need to do. You simply cannot seem to make yourself do it in any sustained or organized way.
If this sounds familiar, you may not have considered that acupuncture could have anything to offer you here. Most people haven't. This week's blog explains why it can.

Ragweed begins in late August. The SAAT treatment takes three weeks.

The math writes itself.

Right now is the ideal window to come in, begin testing, and get ahead of the allergens before they arrive in full force. Not because of any artificial urgency. Simply because three weeks of treatment completed before the season peaks means you enter fall with a recalibrated immune system rather than bracing for another round of the same symptoms with the same medications.

If fall allergies have been something you manage rather than something you have resolved, this is worth a conversation.

Come tell me your story before the ragweed does.

Here is something most people don't realize about allergies.

What looks like one allergy is often several. Mold isn't just mold — there are many distinct mold species and you can be reactive to several of them individually. Dust mites aren't just dust mites — dust mite f***s, carcasses, and shed casings each trigger separate reactions and each needs to be identified and treated on its own. Pet allergies can involve dander, hair, urine, f***s, and saliva — all distinct allergens.

This is exactly why starting the process before fall arrives matters so much. The earlier we begin, the more ground we can cover before the season peaks.

SAAT treats each allergen individually with remarkable precision. This week's blog explains how.

Did you know a single ragweed plant can produce up to one billion pollen grains in a season — and those grains are lightweight enough to travel hundreds of miles on the wind?

Ragweed peaks in Wisconsin from mid-August through September. Mold spores peak through early October, fed by every pile of damp leaves in every yard across the state.

And here is one most people never connect to their fall allergies. The first time you turn on your furnace, dust mites and allergens that have been sitting in your vents all summer get pushed through your entire home.

Fall in Wisconsin hits from multiple directions at once. This week's blog breaks down what is coming and what can be done about it before the season starts.

There is a particular kind of dread that settles in for allergy sufferers sometime around late July.

You know what is coming. The sneezing before you even get out of bed. The eyes that itch no matter how many times you rub them. The fatigue that follows you through September like a shadow. The medications that take the edge off but never quite get you there.

If that is your experience every fall, this week's blog was written for you. Because there is a window right now to do something different before the season arrives.

Short term relief has its place. There is nothing wrong with taking the edge off pain while a longer process unfolds.
But if every choice you make about your health is oriented toward short term gain, something important is being missed.
We are all playing a long game. The game of a life. How you tend to your body now, whether you chase symptoms or address roots, whether you manage pain or resolve its source, determines the person you will be in ten years and twenty.
Our lifespan from our own perspective is both long and fast. We should live fully in the present moment. And we should also consider the person we are becoming.
That is what this work is really about.

If you have been living with sciatica, you are probably familiar with the standard explanation.Something is compressing the sciatic nerve. […]
