Screening mammograms are the gold standard for early detection of breast cancer because they can detect cancer formation when it's the size of a grain of sand AND far earlier than it can be felt.

Cancers of that size, often stage 0 or DCIS, are best detected using 3D mammography, which is our standard at OPR. Mammograms can also detect much more than ultrasound alone.

Ultrasounds don't replace a screening mammogram, but when used correctly, they can offer many benefits. At OPR, we use targeted ultrasound in conjunction WITH your mammogram for advanced diagnostic imaging when necessary.

Let’s replace fear with facts!💯

Mammograms are safe, low-dose X-rays that are an integral part of reducing breast cancer mortality. Early detection matters. When breast cancer is localized and caught early, it has a 95% five-year survival rate.

A mammogram's radiation exposure is only a small fraction of what a typical person gets from natural background and environmental sources.

Many studies show that the benefits of annual screening mammograms far outweigh the risks of this exam. Plus, our team is highly trained, and we routinely evaluate our equipment to ensure we always provide the lowest possible exposure.

🩷 Every patient who gets their mammogram at OPR gets a lifetime risk assessment for breast cancer using the internationally known Tyrer-Cuzick model to empower patients and offer clarity as to their personal risk and next steps towards early detection for breast cancer.

🩷 Each woman has a certain degree of breast density, ranging from all fatty tissue to extremely dense tissue. All breast densities are common, but some make it harder to detect breast abnormalities. No matter your breast density, we strongly encourage you to get a mammogram to accurately assess your breast density and be proactive in your cancer prevention efforts.

🩷At OPR, we always perform 3D mammography as the standard because we believe in providing the highest quality images for all patients.

If you need a mammogram, there are local resources and support to help. 🩷The Wyoming Cancer Program helps uninsured or underinsured individuals apply for mammogram assistance. The Program also provides support for cancer prevention, early detection, and access to treatment and supportive care for survivors.
