Change does not have to happen all at once to be real. A healthier thought to practice might be: “I am improving one step at a time.” Repeating a compassionate, truthful statement can interrupt the harsh inner voice that says progress only counts when it is perfect.

🤍Save this affirmation for a hard day.

We’re excited to welcome George McClain, Counseling Intern, to the Rodgers Christian Counseling team!

George brings a unique combination of education, leadership and real-world experience to RCC. Before entering the counseling field, he spent approximately 10 years working as a registered nurse in intensive-care and operating-room settings. He also served for 11 years as a U.S. Army officer and combat leader and was awarded the Bronze Star.

George is currently pursuing his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. His previous experiences have helped shape the calm, compassionate and grounded presence he brings to his work, along with his collaborative, practical and goal-oriented approach.

We’re grateful to have George learning, growing and serving alongside our clinical team. Please join us in giving him a warm welcome to RCC!

The first appointment is a chance to share what is bringing you in, talk through relevant history and begin identifying goals. You and your counselor can discuss the approaches that may be helpful and what next steps could look like. You do not need to arrive with your whole story organized.

💙Ready to begin? Call 704-364-9176.

Maybe you’re not an angry mom. Maybe you’re an unsupported, overwhelmed mom who has been carrying too much for too long.

When the whining, the shoes on the floor, or the millionth question suddenly feels like too much, the reaction may be about more than what just happened.

In this reel, Alexa Little, LMFT, encourages moms to look beneath the anger and ask a different question: What do I need right now—and am I getting the support I need?

Alexa works with clients navigating parenting stress, postpartum challenges, anxiety, relationship issues, attachment, and more.

If motherhood has started to feel more like survival than connection, support is available. To schedule with Alexa at Rodgers Christian Counseling, call 704-364-9176.

Healthy relationships aren’t built by never having conflict. They’re built by understanding what’s happening underneath it.

The Soul Healing Love® Couples Workshop Master Series helps couples better understand themselves and each other, recognize the wounds and patterns that influence their relationship, communicate more effectively, resolve conflict, and build deeper connection.

With video teaching, guided exercises, and practical tools you can work through together, the series is designed for couples who want to intentionally grow their relationship—whether dating, engaged, or married.

People-pleasing can look like kindness on the outside, but underneath it may be driven by fear, safety, and the need to keep everyone happy.

Amanda Rodgers Cumbo shares that real kindness looks different: it includes being kind to yourself, speaking honestly, and expressing what you need in a gentle but assertive way.

You can care about others without abandoning yourself.

For support with people-pleasing, boundaries, and relationship patterns, call Rodgers Christian Counseling at 704-364-9176.

Not every survival response looks like fight, flight, or freeze. Sometimes it looks like working overtime to keep everyone around you happy.

As Amanda Rodgers Cumbo explains, the fawn response can show up as overdoing, perfectionism, procrastination, or consistently ignoring your own needs because your nervous system has learned, “I’m safe when everyone else is okay.”

Recognizing the pattern can help you begin separating genuine care from automatic self-protection.

For support understanding trauma responses and relationship patterns, call Rodgers Christian Counseling at 704-364-9176.

Sometimes, “I’m fine” is not an honest answer—it is a protective response when sharing your true feelings does not feel safe.

As Tonya Barrett, LCMHC-A, explains, pausing to notice what is underneath those words—anger, disappointment, guilt, or shame—can create space for honesty, growth, and healthier communication.

To schedule with Tonya at Rodgers Christian Counseling, call 704-364-9176.
