Dating apps can make it feel like you’re constantly trying to be interesting, attractive, available, funny, and emotionally unaffected.

That can get exhausting.

Sometimes the problem is not that you’re “bad at dating.” Sometimes dating has started to feel more like performing than connecting.

Healthy dating does not require you to abandon yourself to be chosen.

It includes honesty, clarity, emotional safety, and self-respect.

If dating has left you feeling anxious, discouraged, or stuck in the same patterns, counseling can help you better understand what is happening beneath the surface.

Follow Rodgers Christian Counseling for more relationship insight.

There’s a newer dating trend called “wildflowering,” which is the idea of letting a relationship grow naturally instead of forcing pressure, labels, or timelines.

There can be wisdom in moving slowly. Trust and connection often take time.

But slow dating should not mean unclear dating.

A healthy relationship can move at a slower pace and still include honesty, communication, emotional safety, and direction.

Slow is okay. Confusing is not.

Part 2 of our Relationship Power Struggles series with Dr. Bev & Dr. Tom Rodgers.

Many relationship conflicts are not just about the disagreement itself. Underneath the anger, defensiveness, or control is often fear:

• Fear of abandonment
• Fear of rejection
• Fear of inadequacy
• Fear of failure
• Fear of not being enough

When deeper emotional wounds are triggered, couples often react from pain instead of security and connection.

Understanding the fear underneath the reaction is often one of the first steps toward healing and healthier communication.

Follow Rodgers Christian Counseling for more relationship and emotional healing content.
