We are so excited to introduce you to Dr. Hanna Langston, D.C.!

Dr. Hanna graduated from Sherman College of Chiropractic this year and is passionate about caring for moms, babies, and families. As a mom of two herself, Sawyer (almost 2) and Selah (2 months), she has a special heart for supporting women through pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.

She is especially passionate about empowering moms during pregnancy and birth and helping women feel confident, supported, and cared for throughout the process. She believes in honoring the way God designed a woman’s body for pregnancy and birth, while helping moms feel their best along the way. She also loves caring for kids and helping give the next generation the best possible start to life.

When she’s not in the office, you can usually find Dr. Hanna outside with her family—at the lake, river, or anywhere they can enjoy the outdoors. She loves to travel, cook, make all things sourdough, and has fully embraced her grandma hobbies 😂—sewing, crocheting, and embroidery.

Before chiropractic, Dr. Hanna was a lifestyle and wedding photographer for nearly 10 years, so she still has a love for creativity and capturing beautiful moments.

She is passionate about holistic living, wellness, motherhood, and helping families live healthy, full lives.

We are so thankful to have her as part of the Calhoun Health & Spine family, and we can’t wait for you to get to know her! 🤍

Welcome, Dr. Hanna!

HORMONES. LET’S TALK ABOUT THEM. 🤎

Hormones play an important role in so many aspects of how we feel and function every day.

When hormone levels change, some people may notice things like low energy, poor sleep, mood changes, brain fog, changes in weight or body composition, temperature changes, or simply feeling “off.”

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is one treatment option that may be appropriate for certain individuals experiencing hormone-related changes. But HRT isn’t one-size-fits-all. An individualized evaluation considers your symptoms, health history, medications, goals, and—when appropriate—laboratory testing.

Our goal is to understand the whole picture, help identify what may be contributing to how you feel, and determine whether hormone therapy may be an appropriate option for you.

Swipe through to learn:
→ What HRT is
→ Who it may be for
→ Common signs of hormonal changes
→ How our PA evaluates you
→ What treatment may look like

Feeling “off” lately? It may be worth starting the conversation.

✨ MEET DR. RYAN CALHOUN ✨

You may know him as Dr. Ryan, but there’s a lot more to him than what you see in the office! So, we thought it was time for a little re-introduction and a chance for you to get to know Ryan a little better.

Dr. Ryan grew up in a small farm town in Indiana and later moved to Clemson because he wanted to live in a college town on the lake. It was there that he started Calhoun Health & Spine, which has been serving the community for more than 20 years.

Dr. Ryan graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in 2002 after completing his undergraduate studies at Indiana University. But his favorite titles are husband, Dad, and Papa.

He and his high school sweetheart, Kathy, have been married for 28 years and have four children. These days, they’re enjoying one of their favorite roles yet — being grandparents! They have two grandchildren, a boy and a girl, with another granddaughter on the way.

Outside of the office, you can usually find Dr. Ryan:

⛳️ Golfing
🏋️‍♂️ Working out and staying active
🌊 Spending time at the lake
🏈 Cheering on the Clemson Tigers and going to football games
⛪️ Being involved in his local church
🤝 Serving and staying involved in his community
Spending time with his family
✈️ Traveling and exploring new places

And he’s always up for an adventure! Whether it’s camping somewhere new, traveling internationally, or simply exploring everything a new destination has to offer, he loves experiencing new places and making memories along the way.

Family, faith, health, community, and adventure are a big part of who Dr. Ryan is. After more than 20 years in practice, he’s built relationships with so many people in this community — and we’re excited for you to get to know the person behind the doctor a little better!

The Webster Technique 🤰🏼✨

A specific chiropractic technique specifically designed for the pregnant body.

As pregnancy changes the pelvis, spine, and surrounding structures, Webster Technique focuses on creating balance and proper function within the pelvis and sacrum — helping mom and baby’s bodies work together so they can do what they were physiologically designed to do. 🤍

Pregnancy is an incredible process, and your body was designed for it. Our goal is to support that process with gentle, specific care from pregnancy through birth. 🫶🏼

💩 Let’s talk baby constipation!

Constipation can be common in little ones, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s normal or something you just have to live with.

When a baby is struggling with constipation, we want to look beyond the symptom and ask: WHY is this happening?

This is the first of several topics Dr. Hanna will be sharing about pediatric & perinatal chiropractic and the things she is most passionate about! 🤍

Keep following along as Dr. Hanna dives into more topics surrounding pregnancy, postpartum, babies & kids — and how chiropractic care can support the whole family.

What topic should Dr. Hanna cover next? 👇🏼

Ear infections may be “common” in little kids… but that doesn’t mean they’re “normal.” 🤍

If your child is constantly dealing with ear infections, it’s worth looking beyond the next round of antibiotics and asking: WHY does this keep happening?

This sweet boy came to us after struggling with chronic ear infections. After beginning chiropractic care, his mom shared that he hasn’t had another one. 🥹

From a chiropractic perspective, we look at the spine and nervous system—especially the upper cervical region, including the atlas (C1)—and how the body is functioning as a whole.

We believe recurring symptoms deserve a deeper look rather than simply accepting them as something a child has to “outgrow.”

Common doesn’t always mean normal. ❤️

03/18/2020

I have received many questions from our patients as to whether or not we will remain open during this pandemic. The short answer is YES! Our Clemson office will be open this afternoon (Wednesday, March 18th) and reopen on Monday, March 23rd for normal business hours. Our Anderson office will be open tomorrow, Thursday, March 19th and next week as well.
The news of coronavirus (COVID-19) and its ongoing impact on everything from federal interest rates to your ability to attend church services is now capturing the attention of our country. While you might be wondering how coronavirus is impacting your work, home, school and community gatherings, I want to take a moment and assure you that our clinic will be open and committed to serving you during this moment of uncertainty.
These moments often create tremendous fear and anxiety for those not rooted in their faith and understanding of where healing and protection from an illness comes from. According to the World Health Organization, Coronavirus is characterized by mild symptoms such as runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever and that the illness is often self-limiting (resolves naturally). When your immune system is working at its optimal rate, an infection will produce mild flu-like symptoms and resolve naturally. The concern comes only with those with increased susceptibility (the elderly or those with other pre-existing medical conditions) who might be more vulnerable to further illness or fatality. Note: According to the CDC the estimated broad range of fatalities of COVID-19 is 0.25%–3.0%. This implies a survival rate of 97- 99.75%!
While the news of Coronavirus is rushing through every media channel, and more than likely overtaking your daily conversation - take comfort, guard your thoughts and mind against the collective consciousness of fear.
Our commitment to you also extends to your time in the office for your chiropractic adjustments and nutritional care:
- We are diffusing Tea Tree/Thieves oils which carry natural anti-viral properties
- We are using hand sanitizers between each adjustment
- We are sanitizing all areas of high touch points multiple times throughout the day
- We are providing sanitary towels for use during traction and vibration
At the moment I urge you to resist the temptation to forgo your chiropractic and nutritional care - if anything it's time to increase your focus on your spine, nerve system, and immunity.
Chiropractic and Coronavirus: Research shows that even a single chiropractic adjustment can positively benefit your immune system. A three-year clinical study conducted by Ronald Pero, Ph.D., chief of cancer prevention research at New York’s Preventive Medicine Institute, shows that those who receive chiropractic care have a 200% greater immune competence than those who do not. Chiropractic care can provide other ways to keep your immune system strong including stress management tips and immune-supporting supplements.
Your Gut and the Coronavirus: Your immune system and gut are intimately connected. It's estimated that as much as 80% of your immune system resides within your gut. An out-of-balance gut/microbiome can weaken your immune system. To enhance your gut/immune health eat plenty of fermented and cultured foods, focus on your prebiotic (ION/ Restore) and probiotics which can also enhance your immune system strength.
Your Diet and the Coronavirus: A strong immune system begins with what you find at the end of your fork. Load up on antioxidant-rich vegetables and focus on low glycemic fruits (berries), for instance, which can decrease free radicals, which ultimately keeps your immune system strong. The omega-3 fatty acids in wild-caught fish/grass-fed meats can help manage inflammation levels. The cellular healing diet we have introduced to you provides all the nutrients you need to keep your immune system healthy.
Dr. Calhoun’s Recommendations During COVID-19:
Get Adjusted: Now more than ever, keep your adjusting and nutrition schedule, or request an extra adjustment weekly! Research shows those who receive regular (weekly) chiropractic care had 200% stronger immune system than those who did not get adjusted.
Double/Triple your Vitamin D3:
Adults: 10-20,000 IU daily
Children: 3-5000 IU daily
D3 activates your P53 gene which is responsible for DNA synthesis of your immune system.
Double/Triple your Vitamin C:
Adults: 2-3,000mg daily
Children: 500-1,000mg daily
Vitamin C stimulates the production of white blood cells, especially lymphocytes which are antiviral.
Use Essential Oil Hand Sanitizer: Most store-bought hand sanitizers contain toxic ingredients. Use 1/3 cup isopropyl alcohol with 1 oz of lemon juice, 15 drops of tea tree oil, and 15 drops of anti-viral oil (On Guard/Thieves) mixed together in a small spray bottle.
Sleep well: Your immune system regenerates itself with 7-8 hrs of restful sleep (especially between the hours of 11pm - 2am).
Once again WE ARE OPEN normal hours next week!!! Since many of you are not working right now, you have no excuse! Contact our office if you are symptomatic or at risk. Special procedures will be set up to address these situations. Our office is safely disinfected. Don't let the scare tactics of whoever is pushing all this nonsense get to you. You are way, way more powerful than a virus!
Final Thought… Times like these are useful for tightening up on all the things we believe in and practice. There are many opportunities hidden in this season. Seek and you will find them!
