Foundation Fighting Blindness The Foundation is the driving force in the global development of treatments and cures for blinding diseases. Join the fight and help us accelerate our mission.
(928)

The urgent mission of the Foundation Fighting Blindness is to drive the research that will provide preventions, treatments and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Usher syndrome and the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases. The Foundation is a beacon for those affected by these blinding diseases.

Research takes time, and bringing a treatment from the lab to the people who need it takes a community.

As someone living with Stargardt disease, Brad is seeing that progress become more tangible as potential treatments and cures for blinding diseases, including Stargardt disease, move closer to FDA approval.

But reaching that point can take decades, and preclinical research can be especially difficult to fund. That’s where the Foundation Fighting Blindness plays an important role, supporting early work so promising discoveries can continue moving toward treatments and cures.

For Brad (Two Blind Brothers), seeing research move closer to the people who may one day benefit from it is a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

This , and help show what’s possible when we come together to move research forward.

One connection can lead to something much bigger.

When Eavan was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, finding people who understood what she was experiencing helped her feel less alone. Through the Foundation Fighting Blindness, she met others with her blinding disease and began building a network.

Those connections eventually led Eavan to create Brightside, a support group that has grown to more than 200 people worldwide with vision loss.

What began as Eavan finding support for herself grew into something that now brings hundreds of others together. And none of it would have happened without that first connection.

This , and think about what could grow when we come together.

Think about a moment you realized you weren’t alone.

For many people living with vision loss, finding community begins with meeting someone who shares their experience. It can be the first time they talk openly about their diagnosis, the first time they feel truly understood, or the moment they realize they don’t have to navigate vision loss alone.

Connections can happen in so many ways, including through the Foundation Fighting Blindness, and can grow into something much bigger over time: a source of support, understanding, and belonging that feels more like extended family.

This , and share a connection that helped you find community.

Tomorrow, October 28, Foundation Fighting Blindness CEO Jason Menzo will speak at the FDA’s public meeting on its Rare Disease Framework Initiative.

This initiative aims to reimagine rare disease drug development and regulatory review, accounting for the unique needs of patients and the realities of generating evidence in small patient populations.

We’re proud to bring the perspective of the inherited retinal disease community to this important conversation and help advance a path toward treatments for blinding diseases.

On October 28, 2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, in partnership with the Reagan-Udall Foundation for the FDA, will convene a hybrid public meeting to seek input related to the FDA’s Rare Disease Framework Initiative to reimagine the agency’s approach to rare disease development.

Sometimes, the right support can help you see what you’re capable of.

When people doubted what Anam could do because of her Stargardt disease, she was determined to prove them wrong. But in the process, she proved something to herself, too: that vision loss didn’t have to define what she could accomplish.

With her community behind her, she overcame barriers and went on to thrive in her career. Along the way, Anam gained a greater sense of confidence in herself and all that she could do.

This , and tell us how your community has helped you.

What’s possible when we come together?

For Wyatt, it starts with recognizing that the vision loss community needs support—and that researchers need the resources to keep moving treatments and cures forward.

As someone living with retinitis pigmentosa (RP), Wyatt has seen firsthand how deeply vision loss can affect people and families. But he also sees what’s possible when people come together around a shared goal. And that gives him reason to be excited about what comes next.

This , and help others understand the strength of the vision loss community.

Years of research can lead to moments that once seemed out of reach.

Diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) at just 12 years old, Louis later learned through genetic testing that his vision loss is caused by the PRPF31 gene. Having that information gave him a better understanding of his blinding disease and helped him focus on clinical trials available to him.

Today, Louis is participating in a clinical trial, and so far, he says it’s helping preserve his vision. To him, that progress feels like a “home run.”

Behind moments like this are years of discoveries building on one another—from understanding the genetic causes of vision loss to developing clinical trials that give people new opportunities to participate in research and explore potential treatments and cures.

This , and tell us what research progress means to you.

For researchers, the science is only part of the story.

Dr. Shannon Boye loves showing children that science can be exciting and helping them see what’s possible when they ask questions and stay curious. But meeting a parent whose child is affected by a blinding disease gives that work an even deeper meaning. Those moments remind Dr. Boye and everyone in her lab of the responsibility they carry—and why the work matters.

That connection between research and the people it can impact is helping move science forward. This year, Atsena Therapeutics has two pivotal clinical trials underway, work that Dr. Boye credits in part to the Foundation Fighting Blindness and its commitment to advancing research.

This , and remind researchers why this work matters.

What are you hopeful for?

A treatment or a cure. A more accessible world. Greater understanding of vision loss.

Our hopes are as personal as our stories. And when we share them, we give others a glimpse into our experiences, what matters most, and what we hope is possible. And as research continues to advance, those hopes give purpose to the work of building a future where more of them can become reality.

This , and tell us what you're hopeful for.

National Estate Planning Week is October 19–25—a time to think about the future and make a plan for what matters most.

Estate planning can help you care for the people you love, reflect your values and create a lasting impact on the causes you care about.

For Foundation Fighting Blindness supporter and legacy donor Zach Lovell, planning for the future also means thinking about how he could help drive research advancing treatments and cures for blinding diseases for generations to come.
Whether you’re just starting to think about estate planning or reviewing a plan you already have, our Legacy Resources can help you explore your options.
