Today is World Meditation Day! Meditation is a type of mindfulness, which can be an important part of your self-care toolkit.
Mindfulness is all about allowing your mind to be fully present in whatever environment, experience, space, moment, etc. you are in at any given time. It is about being fully present, or attending fully to whatever it is you’re doing at the moment.
The great news about mindfulness is that anyone can do it: we’re wired like that. It’s a skill most of us don’t realize we have, or don’t realize we can practice & hone because our world is so prone to business, productivity, and multitasking. But mindfulness is something we can all do, even if just a little.
And, as we practice it, it becomes easier.
Most people assume mindfulness requires a major lifestyle change. An early morning routine. A meditation cushion. Significant chunks of unscheduled time.
None of that is true.
Mindfulness is simply the practice of being fully present in whatever you’re doing, aware of where you are and what’s happening, without being overwhelmed by it. And the research on its benefits is hard to ignore: improved emotional regulation, better sleep, lower risk of burnout, improved cardiovascular health, increased creativity and problem solving, and more.
The best part? Anyone can do it. Including you, with the schedule you already have.
