Using 3D Technology to Improve Shoulder Replacement Surgery

Did you know we can now plan shoulder replacement surgery before ever stepping into the operating room?

For patients with severe arthritis or rotator cuff damage, a Reverse Shoulder Replacement can restore function and reduce pain. But every shoulder is different—especially the socket of the joint (glenoid), which can wear down and angle backward over time.

Using Stryker’s Shoulder ID 3D planning system, we create a custom digital model of your shoulder from a CT scan. This allows us to:

✔️ Measure bone wear and glenoid retroversion (backward tilt of the socket)
✔️ Plan the exact implant position before surgery
✔️ Correct deformity and restore more normal shoulder alignment
✔️ Reduce the risk of implant loosening or instability
✔️ Improve overall function and longevity of the replacement

In the images below, you can see how advanced planning allows us to correct a 24° backward tilt of the socket, optimizing the position of the implant and restoring proper mechanics to the shoulder.
