The way a child is loved becomes the way they see themselves - and the way they expect the world to treat them.

Some children grow up believing that love has to be earned. Others learn that people cannot be trusted. Some become fiercely independent because depending on others has never felt safe.

These are not "bad behaviours". They are often survival strategies that made sense at the time.

When we understand attachment, we stop asking, "What is wrong with this child?" and start asking, "What has happened to this child?"

Every child deserves at least one adult who sees beyond the behaviour and understands the need underneath.

We are so excited to welcome Alyson to SOAR! She is passionate about creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered throughout their healing journey.

Alyson's approach to therapy is compassionate, collaborative, and person-centered. She believes each client is the expert on their own life and works alongside them to build insight, develop practical tools, and create lasting change at a pace that feels right for them.

She has completed training in mindfulness-based interventions, trauma-informed parts work, OCD treatment, discernment counseling, and Gottman Method relationship principles.

Save Lives: An Introduction to Su***de Prevention for Black and African American Communities is a presentation created in concert with an Advisory Committee of experts in Black and African American mental health and su***de prevention, designed to reduce cultural stigma around su***de, foster conversations about mental health, and raise awareness of su***de prevention for individuals who identify as Black or African American.
