Providing exceptional care starts with understanding the unique needs and experiences of every patient. 💙

Family medicine residents and medical students participated in a hands-on training designed to improve care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), through a partnership with Special Olympics Connecticut and the Danbury Hospital Harold A. Spratt Center for Simulation and Clinical Learning.

Special Olympics health messengers acted as patients as the residents and students assessed them during an office visit. 🩺

"The training gave me insight into the perspective and preferences of Special Olympics athletes. It helped me improve my communication skills, approach sensitive topics more thoughtfully and provide more patient-centered, compassionate care for individuals with special needs." — Maria Piatac, MD, PGY1, Family Medicine Resident Physician, New Milford Hospital

A big thank you to all the participants for helping our residents, students and future patients who will all benefits from this important training! 👏🏽

Thank you to the students from Brookfield High School and St. Rose School for organizing a magazine drive for the Danbury Hospital hospitality cart! 📚💙

These donations will help bring a little comfort and distraction to patients and families during their time at the hospital, and we’re so grateful for the kindness behind it.

There are so many ways students, families, schools, scout troops and community groups can support our patients through donation drives, handmade cards, comfort items and other thoughtful projects. 💌🧸

When our community calls, these are the people who answer. 💙

The Danbury Hospital Emergency Department Ultrasound team welcomed members of the Connecticut National Guard for Hands-on Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) training, helping equip these service members with critical skills they may need while serving both here at home and during future deployments.

The training focused on bedside ultrasound techniques that support rapid clinical decision-making in urgent and life-threatening situations, giving responders another tool to provide timely care when every second matters.

This collaboration builds on the POCUS program developed by the emergency departments at Danbury and New Milford hospitals over the last two years. Together, these efforts aim to strengthen trauma care, expand education and improve patient outcomes across our communities.

To the members of the The Connecticut National Guard preparing to serve near and far, thank you for your dedication. It was an honor to support those who protect and care for our communities every day!

Some stories remind us just how quickly life can change, and how important it is to act fast. 💙🐾

When Kathryn McGuire didn’t show up for lunch, her friends immediately knew something was wrong. They found her after she had suffered not one, but two strokes, while her beloved Golden Retriever and certified therapy dog, Maggie Mae, stayed faithfully by her side.

Thanks to quick action, emergency stroke care at Danbury Hospital and the support of family, friends and her care team, Kathryn was able to recover and return to time with loved ones, her grandchildren and bringing comfort to others alongside Maggie Mae.

Her story is also an important reminder that stroke can happen to anyone. Knowing the signs and seeking care quickly can make all the difference.

Thank you, Kathryn, for sharing your story and inspiring others. 💙
