Momentum Lactation was founded in 2017 with the goal of providing greater access to breastfeeding support in the Edwardsville and St. Alisa worked in the community in a hospital setting for many years and realized that many Mothers needed more support and information after they leave the hospital to be successful on their breastfeeding journey. With decades of experience supporting and educating n

ew mothers through various modalities, and an expert in clinical lactation, she founded Momentum Lactation to include needed access and support missing in the hospital and community. Alisa works with physicians and other care providers in the community and has built a strong referral network in the area for a variety of breastfeeding and post partum issues and support. Families can now receive office, home or virtual visits in the early days at home, as well as a community of other moms in our monthly Breastfeeding Mom’s Meet Ups. Common types of issues addressed include, low milk supply, painful latch, baby weight loss, pediatrician concerns related to feeding or growth, getting a back to work plan and just managing the breastfeeding routine and lifestyle. We look forward to serving you to help you meet your breastfeeding goals along your personal journey.

Earlier this month, we gathered together to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month with the families and community who make this work so meaningful.

We spent the morning connecting over brunch bites and coffee, exploring the nature center, playing, moving together during family yoga, and adding leaves to our Tree of Support- recognizing the people and things that have helped families along their breastfeeding and pumping journeys....because feeding a baby was never meant to happen in isolation.

Support can look like a partner who brings you water, a friend who listens, a provider who takes your concerns seriously, an IBCLC who helps you work through the hard parts, or simply being surrounded by other people who get it. 🤍

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us and helped make Rooted in Support such a special morning. We loved getting to spend it with you. 🌳

Happy National Breastfeeding Month from Momentum Lactation!

New moms often worry that their baby isn’t getting what they need because they want to return to the breast frequently.

As we celebrate National Breastfeeding Month, it's the perfect time to remember that what often feels "too often" is actually beautifully normal.

Their intake varies from one feeding to the next depending on how hungry they are.

Each time they latch, they're getting exactly what they need, as breastmilk is bioavailable and constantly adjusting to meet their unique growth, hydration, and immunity needs.

You can expect periods of cluster feeding during those early weeks as your milk supply increases and regulates.

By around one month, your milk production becomes more established—but your baby's feeding patterns will continue to vary from day to day.

No two feedings are the same—just as no two babies are.

This National Breastfeeding Month, let's celebrate not just breastfeeding itself, but the confidence to trust your baby, follow their cues, and tune out the noise.

You're doing exactly what your baby needs 💕🧡

There is clear and unequivocal proof that Lactation support improves the long-term health of the mom and baby. It prevents future problems for both over the course of their lives.

Becoming a Lactation consultant is difficult and achieving the board certification takes hours of clinical experience and lots of dollars to pay for the education.

Few Lactation consultants are able to make their living just supporting moms and babies as a Lactation consultant unless they work under the umbrella of a hospital or WIC.

What people don’t know is that those care models of Lactation support are not adequate and Mothers need support after they go home and throughout their entire journey to continue to be successful.

Learning how to bill insurance for care been a difficult personal journey for me.

When I made the commitment eight years ago to open a community Breastfeeding clinic, I understood that Breastfeeding support was a covered insurance benefit, but had no idea of the nuances surrounding actually mobilizing this support for families and getting paid equitably to afford an office space, keep the lights on, have the supplies that I needed and be able to visit families in their homes.

After 5 to 6 years, I was able to put a process in place that has allowed me to keep doing the job I am passionate about and has allowed me to see thousands of positive outcomes for breast-feeding moms and babies.

NOW THIS!!!!!

Healthcare is going backwards trying to save money in an area that has research showing long-term preventative health benefits for families!!!!

Please watch this short video so that you are informed and can advocate for families and lactation care in any small way you might be able to. 💔
