Research tells us that Reiki has a direct impact on the nervous system, as measured by a reduction in heart rate and blood pressure and an increase in heart rate variability.

So yes, Reiki is good for you and your nervous system. AND it’s not right for every nervous system in every moment. Or not in the way it’s typically done anyway.

Let’s look at some examples.

If you have a client who is very depressed, they are likely in a heavy parasympathetic state. More down-regulation might just enhance/deepen the state they’re looking to shift.

If you have a client with past medical trauma, lying still on a table with someone standing over them will likely bring this to the surface in some way. Even if they aren’t cognitively aware of it, their body and nervous system remembers.

If you have a client with a history of freeze or collapse, stillness could cause one of two things to happen. First, the mind might get busy and the body might get fidgety to keep from freezing, making for an uncomfortable or not-so-relaxing session. Second, the person might slip into freeze or collapse but mistake it for relaxation. Neither is ideal.

Now, each of these individuals could benefit from Reiki. The answer is not to avoid working with these clients. The answer is to adapt the practice to better suit their specific system.

I’ve got something coming that’s going to tell you exactly how to do that for cases like these and all the others you might encounter. Stay tuned for the details or send us a message if you want to be among the first to know more.

The full moon lunar eclipse happened yesterday. But don’t be fooled. Eclipse season isn’t over yet. And even when it technically is, the energy of this eclipse is set to impact the next year.

So if your endings are feeling more intense, emotions are bigger, changes more unexpected, transitions more transition-y and all you wanna do is hide under the covers? Well then you’re right on time.

If you’re in need of some spiritual support right about now, here’s what you should do. 👇

1. Phone a friend. Give them directions to your undercover hideout and ask them to come rescue you.

2. Join us here at Resonance tonight or tomorrow for one of our fabulous workshops that will help you still the turbulence of your mind and emotions. Things won’t feel so big or bad after I promise.

3. Return to your undercover hideout because let’s be real this s**t is exhausting. Am I right?

Sending big eclipse season love friends! 🫶

The process of reconnecting with yourself after years of disconnection can feel overwhelming and exhausting and never ending.

And when sensation slowly returns and feeling emerges, it can feel like the most incredible homecoming. Like finally, this body that I inhabit feels like my own. Like finally, I’m so much more than the limited experience that I’ve known.

Somatic work helped me make safe contact with the landscape of my body after a lifetime of dissociation. It was slow and gradual. It took commitment and repetition and frustration. And it continues to be one of the most worthwhile things I’ve ever done.

These two go together all too well. In so many ways, Reiki asks us to have faith. To show up, keep going, and let go of the outcome. This is yet another example.

But there ARE ways through it. Surrounding yourself with supportive, encouraging, like-minded folks is definitely one way to make the journey a little easier. And of course practice.

Join us for a Reiki Share, Community Healing Clinic or Reiki in Mental Health Collaborative to find your people and get your practice. This path is so much better when traveled together. 🫶

Simply put, when we change how we relate to ourselves, it changes how we show up in the world.

That’s how things shift. One person. One nervous system. One relationship at a time.

There’s this subtle expectation that if you teach regulation, you should always be regulated. If you work with energy, yours should always be balanced. If you hold space for others, you should never struggle to hold yourself.

But that simply isn’t real.

I was a Reiki teacher before I had the capacity to comfortably hold everything that came with teaching. I got activated. I struggled to settle afterward. I needed time to grow into the role.

And none of that made me a bad teacher or a bad healer. It made me human.

I think we do ourselves—and our clients—a disservice when we put healers on a pedestal.

We don’t need perfect healers. We need healers who are committed to learning, growth and authenticity. And healers who are willing to use the wisdom of their own experience to support others.
