✨ **Why Try Tummy Time for Kids?** ✨

Tummy time (or lying on the stomach) isn't just for babies! Doing schoolwork or playing on the floor in the **prone position** builds strong bodies and sharper minds.

**Key Benefits:**

* **Upper Body & Core Strength:** Builds shoulder stability and posture.
* **Fine Motor Skills:** Strengthens hands for writing and precise tasks.
* **Focus & Coordination:** Improves visual attention and two-handed coordination.
* **Sitting Endurance:** Prepares kids to stay comfortable at school desks.

Mixing up positions during puzzles, coloring, or block play keeps learning fun while building essential daily skills! 💙

🎒🐉 **Back-to-school prep is in full swing at Sensory in Motion!** 🐉🎒

We’re hard at work helping our kiddos build the skills they need to feel **confident, organized, and ready for a successful school year!** ✏️📚

From getting dressed and packing the backpack to organizing school supplies, preparing clothes for the next day, and checking off those important morning and nighttime routines, we’re working on **independence, executive functioning, sequencing, fine motor skills, and daily living skills**—all while making it fun! 💪✨

Because being “school ready” is about more than academics. It’s about helping kids learn how to **plan, prepare, organize, and take ownership of their routines.** ❤️

🐉 **Small steps + big skills = growing independence!**

🦖 What a ROAR-some week in OT! 🦕

Our dinosaur-themed therapy sessions were full of adventure, imagination, and skill-building! From digging for fossils to completing dinosaur challenges, our little explorers practiced fine motor skills, balance, coordination, sensory processing, problem-solving, and so much more—all through the power of play.

We love creating fun, engaging experiences that help children build confidence while reaching their therapy goals. Thank you to all of our amazing dino explorers for making these sessions unforgettable! 💚

Stay tuned to see what exciting theme is coming next!

Vestibular-visual integration deficits in children can significantly impact a child's development, academic success, and physical milestones. Because children have a developing central nervous system, their symptoms often surface as behavioral issues, attention, academic difficulties, or motor delays. These deficits can look like reading difficulties, clumsiness, and fatigue or slouching.

We love utilizing a vibration plate and Melissa and Doug’s Sticker Wow to target vestibular-visual integration! Vibration plates offer intense vestibular input and Sticker Wow adds some fun visual work.

Ever notice a child’s mouth moving while they cut with scissors? ✂️👄

That little tongue or jaw movement isn't just a cute habit—it gives us a fascinating glimpse into how a child's nervous system is developing!

What you’re seeing is called motor overflow (or associated reactions). When a fine motor task requires intense concentration and effort, extra motor signals can "spill over" into adjacent muscle groups—like the mouth, tongue, shoulders, or even the opposite hand.

In some kids, persistent motor overflow is linked to retained primitive reflexes, like the Babkin Reflex. This infant reflex connects hand pressure directly to mouth movements. While it usually integrates as a child grows, an active Babkin reflex can cause mouth movements to persist during fine motor tasks like cutting, writing, or coloring. ✏️

✨ Here's the takeaway: These observations don't mean something is "wrong"—they simply offer valuable clues about how a child's brain and body are working together.

At Sensory in Motion, we look beyond the skill itself to understand the why behind a child's movements. By targeting these underlying neurological patterns, we help build stronger motor planning, coordination, sensory processing, and confidence for everyday life. 💙

Have you ever noticed your child sticking out their tongue or moving their mouth when they're concentrating? We'd love to hear your observations!
