August is Overdose Awareness Month, and as we prepare to recognize International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31, we’re reminded of just how deeply the overdose crisis continues to impact men in Massachusetts.
In 2024, 964 men lost their lives to an opioid-involved overdose, accounting for nearly 3 out of every 4 opioid-involved overdose deaths in the state.
That’s why programs like Foundations at the Miller House are so important.
Our men’s residential treatment program provides more than a safe place to stay. It gives men the time, structure, clinical support, and recovery community needed to step away from the environment they were struggling in and focus fully on building a foundation for long-term recovery.
For many men, that level of structure and support can be a critical first step toward addressing substance use, developing new coping skills, rebuilding relationships, and preparing for what comes next.
The numbers in Massachusetts are moving in the right direction, but 964 men lost in a single year is still far too many.
This month, we remember those we’ve lost and continue doing everything we can to make sure more men have the opportunity to find treatment, recovery, and a life beyond addiction.
