Today we are celebrating an incredible milestone — Megan’s 4 year anniversary with Healing Haven! 🎉💛

Megan holds such a special place in the story of Healing Haven because she was the very first staff member ever hired. Over the last four years, she has helped shape Healing Haven into what it is today through her unwavering advocacy, deep love for children and families, and dedication to the work she does every day.

Her compassion and heart for helping others shine through in everything she does. Megan has made a lasting impact on the children and families she serves, creating safe spaces for healing, growth, and support.

We are beyond grateful for the many ways Megan has contributed to Healing Haven over the years. Thank you, Megan, for 4 amazing years of helping children and families heal, grow, and thrive. We truly would not be the same without you! 💕

Please help us celebrate and congratulate Megan in the comments! 👏

🎓💙 Graduation happened for Emily's Boys Anger Management Group!

Over four sessions, these boys learned that while they can't always control what happens to them, they can control how they respond. Through activities, discussions, and plenty of fun, they practiced recognizing emotions, understanding triggers, and making thoughtful choices instead of reacting impulsively.

Emily's favorite part was watching them become more aware of their emotions, behaviors, and choices—and seeing them connect what they were feeling with what they could do differently.

We're so proud of their growth and hard work! 💙🎉

🧠 Ever had a client “check out” in session — and you weren’t sure what you were seeing?

Dissociation can look like zoning out, emotional numbness, memory gaps, or feeling disconnected in session — and it’s more common than many clinicians realize.

If you work with trauma, anxiety, attachment wounds, or overwhelmed clients, this training can help you better recognize and respond to dissociation with confidence and care.

Join Tammy Horton, MA, LPCC-S for a practical, trauma-informed training for therapists and helping professionals.

✨ Mondays with Mel ✨

Today was a rough day. Several things were going wrong, and the weight of it all was sitting heavy on my mind. Then I had a negative interaction with a cashier at a store, and honestly… it was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I was angry. I was upset. I was sitting there considering my options for what to do with all of those emotions.

10–15 years ago, that might have looked like going home and overeating, calling a friend to vent about how nothing ever goes my way, or spiraling into all the things wrong in the world without any self-reflection or challenging my own distortions.

But today? My immediate thoughts were:
Go for a run (which is hilarious because I do not run 😂), work in the garden (also not exactly my hobby), or go home, make a cup of tea, and take a nap in hopes of waking up feeling a little lighter.

And that’s how I know therapy works.

That’s how I know the work I do with clients every single day works.

Because over time, our reactions change. Our coping skills change. After doing the work day in and day out, we slowly replace unhealthy reactions with healthier, more grounding ones. The fact that my brain’s instinctive response today was to run, garden, or rest instead of self-destruct is proof enough for me that healing is possible.

And honestly? Even recognizing that shift in myself became a coping skill too. ❤️

So here’s your Monday reflection:
When life feels heavy, what does your mind naturally turn to for comfort — and is it helping you heal or helping you avoid?

Mental Health Month is a gentle reminder that healing rarely looks perfect or linear. 🌿

Sometimes it looks like slowing down.
Sometimes it looks like asking for help.
Sometimes it looks like setting boundaries, resting, crying, laughing, or simply making it through the day.
Healing can look like fresh flowers on the table.
A quiet moment. A dog placing a paw on your lap when words are hard. 🤍

Your mental health matters every single month — but this month, may we speak about it with more honesty, compassion, and hope.

You do not have to carry everything alone.

✨ Mondays with Mel ✨

I was asked to do something today that scares me: speak in front of people.

Typically, “old Mel” would have let anxiety drive the car and make the decision for me. But I so desperately want to be someone who practices what they preach — especially because this is the work I do every day.

So I stopped and reflected on what I tell my clients all the time:

Is this anxiety because I am truly unsafe?
Or is this discomfort because I am growing?

If doing the scary thing is not actually dangerous — if it is purely anxiety and not true danger — then I remind myself to PUSH THROUGH and do the scary thing anyway.

Because no growth happens in comfort. 🌱

Sometimes anxiety is there to protect us.
Sometimes anxiety is there because we are stepping outside of what feels familiar.

And healing often means learning the difference. 💛

So here’s your reminder this week:
Push yourself to grow. Do something that makes you a little anxious in a healthy way. You might be surprised what you’re capable of on the other side of fear.
