Let’s demystify school support lingo! 🏫👇

Think of it this way:
🕶️ An Accommodation is like wearing glasses. It changes how a student accesses the classroom (e.g., getting extra time on a test or using sensory headphones) but they are still reading the exact same book as everyone else.

📖 A Modification actually changes what is expected (e.g., being assigned a shorter book or simpler math problems).

This is often due to masking—the exhausting process of suppressing natural neurodivergent traits (like stimming, sensory discomfort, or executive struggles) to fit into a neurotypical environment.

By the time they get home, their 'energy battery' is at 0%, and they finally feel safe enough to let it all out. Understanding masking is a huge step in helping our kids (and ourselves!) feel safe to live authentically. Let's design environments where the mask can come off. 🤍
