🎃 Let's make Halloween fun for every neighbor!

Halloween is a special time in the Kentlands and Lakelands, but for some children, teens, and adults, the costumes, crowds, and decorations can feel overwhelming.

A little extra patience, sensory-friendly decorations, and inclusive treats can go a long way toward making everyone feel welcome! 🧡

In our latest blog, we share simple ways our community can make Halloween a joyful and inclusive experience for all.

Bullying can happen at school, on a team, between friends, or online, and it isn’t always easy for parents to spot.
Children who are being bullied may feel anxious, embarrassed, angry, or powerless, and many have difficulty talking about what’s happening. During Bullying Prevention Month, we’re reminding families that listening, taking concerns seriously, and helping kids find their voice can make a meaningful difference.

On World Mental Health Day, we’re reminded that caring for our mental health doesn’t have to begin with a crisis.
Sometimes it looks like setting a boundary, talking with someone you trust, making time to rest, or seeking professional support. Small steps toward caring for ourselves matter, today and throughout the year.

A good book can do more than tell a story. It can help young people recognize their own feelings, understand experiences different from their own, and find words for things that may be difficult to express.
This Banned Books Week, we’re celebrating the freedom to read and the value of stories that make room for complicated emotions, identities, families, and experiences. Sometimes a book can be a small but meaningful starting point for connection and conversation.
What book made an impact on you growing up?

Why does an otherwise responsible teen sometimes refuse to budge on the smallest things?

It may not be simple stubbornness. Autonomy, anxiety, temperament, forgetfulness, or low investment can all play a role.

Our latest advice column explores what may be happening and when it might be better to ask a question instead of pushing harder.
