We like to think that people who've lived longer than us have it all figured out but life doesn't get easier as we get older, we just (ideally) learn to use the emotional tools we have more efficiently.

Make sure you're checking in on your mental health regularly as an adult, no matter your age. Asking for help when you need it isn't a weakness, but rather a strength. πŸ’š

Taking care of your mental health is important at every age, and sometimes children (and even adults!) can have big emotions that they aren't sure how to handle. Helping them identify how they're feeling is the first step to helping them self-regulate. Here are some questions you can ask to help them do this:

πŸ‘‰ What are you thinking right now?
πŸ‘‰ How can you feel this emotion in your body?
πŸ‘‰ Do any of these pictures show how you feel?
πŸ‘‰ How big is this emotion on a scale of 1-10?

Normalize talking about your own emotions in everyday circumstances and encourage your child to do the same. When children learn to use the correct emotional language, they're more likely to use words to express how they're feeling instead of behaviors. πŸ’š

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and this year's theme is "more good days, together," asking us to reflect on what a "good" day looks like for us and for others in our community. How can we work together to promote awareness, connection, and community engagement so that no one is forgotten and we can all have more good days, together?

Let's learn from our "good" days and use that knowledge to help connect others to the resources that will enable them to have more "good" days also. πŸ’š
