You'll work with modern EMS technology including:

What You'll Do:

As a Paramedic, you'll provide compassionate, high-quality emergency medical care while working alongside dedicated EMTs, fellow paramedics, firefighters, law enforcement, and hospital staff.

Responsibilities include:

Responding to 911 emergency calls
Providing Advanced Life Support
Performing patient assessments
Administering medications
Cardiac monitoring and interpretation
Airway management
Trauma care
Accurate documentation

Minimum Qualifications:

✔ Pennsylvania Certified Paramedic

✔ Current CPR Certification

✔ Valid Driver's License

✔ EVOC (or ability to obtain)

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from Pequea Valley Fire Department! 🇺🇸

Today, we celebrate the birth of our nation and the freedoms we are privileged to enjoy. As you gather with family and friends, we hope you have a safe, enjoyable, and memorable Fourth of July.

If you’re celebrating with fireworks, please do so responsibly. Keep a safe distance, have a water source nearby, never allow children to handle fireworks, and leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible.

While many are celebrating, our firefighters and EMS providers remain ready to respond whenever our community needs us. We extend our sincere appreciation to all first responders and to the families who support them every day.

🌡️ Heat Advisory: Stay Safe This Week! ☀️

A stretch of dangerously hot weather is expected over the next several days here in Lancaster County. High temperatures and humidity can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses.

Here are a few simple ways to stay safe:
💧 Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
🏠 Stay in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
⏰ Limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially during the hottest part of the day (11 AM–5 PM).
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle—even for a minute.
👵 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone without air conditioning.

Know the warning signs:

Heavy sweating, dizziness, muscle cramps, nausea, or weakness may be signs of heat exhaustion.
Confusion, loss of consciousness, or a body temperature above 103°F may indicate heat stroke, a life-threatening emergency. Call 911 immediately.

Our crews are always ready to respond, but a few simple precautions can help keep you and your family safe during this heat wave.

Stay cool. Stay hydrated. Stay safe.

A Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for Lancaster, York, Dauphin, Cumberland, Centre, Schuylkill, Franklin, Lebanon, Lycoming, Northumberland, Adams, Columbia, Union, Mifflin, Clinton, Huntingdon, Perry, Snyder, Juniata, Fulton, Montour until Jul 03 8:00PM. Heat index values of 105°F or higher are possible in these areas. Hot temperatures and high humidity may lead to heat illness if proper precautions are not taken. It’s a warm one out there today and expected the same for tomorrow! Make sure you are taking care of yourself with plenty of fluids, time in the shade, and don’t overwork!

One of the first signs of heat illness is muscle cramps, so if you start cramping up it's time to act:

— Get someplace cooler, stat ☃️
— Remove excess clothing 👋
— Drink a cool sports drink 🧃
— Avoid caffeine/alcohol 🚫🍸

Seek medical help if your cramps don't go away in an hour, you have heart problems, or you are on a low-sodium diet.

🚑 Pequea Valley Fire Department Welcomes New Medical Director 🚑

Pequea Valley Fire Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tyler McCardell, MD as our new Medical Director.

Dr. McCardell serves as an EMS Physician and Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine with Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. In his role, he provides county-wide physician field response through the Penn-Med-1 program, coordinates prehospital education, and serves as a Medical Director for select EMS agencies in Lancaster County.

A graduate of Solanco High School, where he served as Class President and Co-Valedictorian, Dr. McCardell went on to earn dual bachelor's degrees from Duquesne University before completing medical school at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Allegheny General Hospital, serving as Chief Resident and Assistant Medical Director for AHN LifeFlight, and later completed an EMS Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. McCardell brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion for EMS education and prehospital medicine. We are excited to have him join the Pequea Valley Fire Department team and look forward to the guidance and support he will provide to our EMS providers and the communities we serve.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Michael Reihart for his years of dedicated service as our Medical Director. Dr. Reihart has been an invaluable partner, advocate, and mentor to our organization. As he transitions into a new position that takes him outside of our area, we thank him for his commitment to Pequea Valley Fire Department and wish him the very best in this next chapter of his career.

🚑🎓 Pequea Valley Fire Department Completes First In-House EMT Program! 🎓🚑

Pequea Valley Fire Department is proud to announce the successful completion of our first in-house EMT program coordinated and run by our own staff, a major milestone in our commitment to providing high-quality emergency medical services to our community.

The program began in January with 25 students, and 23 successfully completed the course. We are proud to share that 100% of those graduates passed the National Registry Psychomotor (Skills) Examination on their first attempt, demonstrating the knowledge, dedication, and professionalism of our students.

Additional accomplishments include:
✅ 15 graduates have already passed the National Registry Cognitive (Written) Examination now becoming fully certified EMTs
✅ 19 graduates have committed to volunteer with PVFD and are preparing to serve our community

This program was designed to help address the growing need for EMS providers while creating opportunities for local residents to receive quality EMT education close to home. The results have exceeded our expectations and will have a lasting impact on emergency medical services in the Pequea Valley region.

This achievement would not have been possible without the support of many individuals and organizations. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to:

Your generosity provided the equipment, training supplies, educational materials, textbooks, and resources necessary to establish and operate both the EMT program and our training center.

Last Friday, January 30th, the members of Pequea Valley Fire Department took the evening off for our annual membership appreciation banquet. We would like to thank Christiana Fire Company - Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Columbia Borough Fire Department Station 80, and New Holland Ambulance for covering our area so the members could enjoy the evening off.

This years banquet was held at The Barn at Paradise Station with catering done by Welsh Mountain Catering. The event started with a social hour for guests to mingle followed by dinner, awards and an "auction". Each member of the company was given play money with the amount based on activity level and accomplishments achieved in 2025 to "spend" in the auction to win prizes.

We would like to thank all of the the business sponsors who made the evening possible by having all auction items donated, but we would like to give a shout out to three specific businesses who made very sizable donations.

Leacock Paving and Zook's Homemade Chicken Pies LLC whose made a cash donation to help cover the cost of the venue, meal and several auction items.

Steveco Power who donated the "grand prize" a zero turn Toro TimeCutter lawn mower
