From FoxCitiesTornado.com

People want to help immediately, and that impulse is genuinely the best thing about a place like this. Some quick honesty about what helps and what does not:
Most helpful:
Money to established local organizations. It sounds cold next to a truckload of supplies, but cash lets relief groups buy exactly what is short, locally, keeping money in damaged businesses, with no sorting or storage cost
Registering as a volunteer through an organized effort and waiting to be called
Checking on your own neighbors — especially anyone elderly, alone, or medically fragile
Donating blood, which is always short after a mass-casualty event

Please avoid, at least for now:
Driving into the damage area to look. Officials have been explicit: extra traffic is actively slowing emergency response. Menasha's police chief asked non-residents to stay out
Self-deploying with a chainsaw. Well-meant, but untrained volunteers around downed conductors and unstable trees create casualties. Register with Crisis Cleanup instead
Collecting used clothing. The unwanted-donation problem is real and consumes volunteer hours that should go to survivors
Before you give to any fundraiser, see the scam warnings in the Avoid Scams section. Fake charities appear within 48 hours of every disaster, and this one is now past that mark.

Tonight we pray to St. Medard, patron saint of bad weather and tornadoes.
We ask the Lord for your comfort and healing for victims of the storm that affected so many in the Fox Valley. Give courage to the helpers as they start to assess the needs of people without homes, food, and power. We pray for your peace tonight and in the coming days.
Amen.

Indeed, our life changes when we suffer the loss of someone we love, but we do go on.

“It has been said, 'time heals all wounds.' I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone.”

We could all learn from Dolly.

I make a point to appreciate all the little things in my life. I go out and smell the air after a good, hard rain. I re-read passages from my favorite books. I hold the little treasures that somebody special gave me. These small actions help remind me that there are so many great, glorious pieces of good in the world.

Gracious God,
Please protect firefighters and rescue teams of Canada as they battle the dangerous Canadian wildfires. Give them strength, courage, and wisdom as they work to save our precious wilderness. We pray for comfort for our hearts, and give us hope for the future. Lord, we ask you to calm the winds and send heavy rain to quench the fires and restore the land. Bring peace, safety, and swift relief to the fire ravaged areas. Take care of our wildlife caught in the paths of the flames. Together, we pray in your holy name.
Amen.
