Why did the chicken cross the road? 🐔 To care for their s*xual health, obviously! ❤️‍🩹
This lil sweetie wandered just out of their yard this morning onto Portsmouth Ave. Don't worry, they made it to their appointment before the 15 minute grace period ended and were able to get what they needed! 🤪

Body size does NOT affect clinical abortion outcomes (but anti-fat discrimination does) 💊
Studies in both 2019 and 2025 found NO correlation between larger body size and increased complication risk with medication or procedural abortion care.

AND body size does NOT impact medication dosing or successful outcomes of medication abortion with mifepristone and misoprostol! ❤️

Unfortunately, due to longstanding anti-fat bias in many healthcare settings, fat folks/folks in larger bodies are more likely to be referred to hospital based abortion care, often leading to barriers like delays in care and higher out of pocket cost. We know that clinically, experiencing any kind of discrimination, judgment, or shaming in healthcare leads to poorer health outcomes and folks delaying seeking care, or avoiding it altogether.

Weight stigma in medical care is *traumatizing* and makes people’s health WORSE!
At Lovering, you can rest assured knowing that your care will not involve any weight-based stigma — just evidence-based care that views you as a whole person. We don’t routinely weigh you because there’s usually no need! We’ll only ask to take your weight if there’s a good reason, like for dosing of specific medications. PLUS, our staff is made up of people of all shapes and sizes! Creating a fat positive environment that recognizes that body diversity is good and normal is important for staff as well as patients. 💜

August is A**l Health Awareness Month -- let's talk butt stuff! 🍑
🦠 A great way to take care of your a**l health is to have regular a**l STI screening if you have any kind of a**l s*x, including a**l-oral s*x! At Lovering we can do your swab for you, or we can provide you with instructions for how to do your own if that's more comfy! (This goes for vaginal and throat swabs, too!)

💦 Using plenty of l**e during a**l (or any) s*x can help decrease discomfort, friction, and chafing! It's particularly important to use l**e during any penetrative a**l s*x since, unlike vaginas, anuses do not make their own lubrication.

💩 It's usually recommended to start routine colore**al screening (like periodic colonoscopy) around age 45, but you should speak with your healthcare provider about what's right for you! If someone has a strong family history of colore**al cancers or certain increased risk factors, routine screening may be recommended earlier/more frequently.

Could it be menopause, or maybe…… PERRYmenopause? 🤠
Menopause symptoms can sneak up on you like a platypus in a fedora — let’s break it down:

❌MYTH: You’re too young to be in perimenopause or menopause in your early 40s.
✅FACT: Perimenopause often starts in the early to mid-40s, sometimes even late 30s.

❌MYTH: Menopause symptoms are just part of life you have to accept.
✅FACT: Many evidence-based treatments are available that can make a meaningful difference in symptom relief and quality of life.

❌MYTH: A person who has periods can be sure menopause is coming when their period stops.
✅For people who have periods, the first sign is a change in the cycle — even subtle changes in the period can be early signs of perimenopause.

Let's break down some of these common phrases, shall we? 🧐
⚫️ "I support abortion, BUT..." ➡️"I only support abortion if I find someone's reason for having an abortion acceptable to me personally."

👎️ NO ONE owes anyone justification for why they want/need an abortion. The right to bodily autonomy wins out over someone else's discomfort and/or judgment every time (yes, EVEN healthcare providers and staff)!

⚫️"OMG you're on birth control? But it's SO bad for you..." ➡️"An influencer told me that hormones are bad. No, they don't have any clinical credentials, why?"

💊 Anti-hormonal birth control rhetoric is on the rise, particularly online, and while hormonal birth control is definitely not a good fit for everyone, it's important to be critical of where you're getting your information. Everyone deserves clear, accurate, and thoughtful information about all of their pregnancy prevention options -- NOT fearmongering.

⚫️ "It's fine to be LGBTQ+ but why do I have to know about what you do in private?" ➡️ "When I see q***r/trans people existing I immediately think about them having s*x because the patriarchy has trained me to see people as s*xual objects."

📩 (P.S. While it's weird and gross for people to jump right to how someone has s*x, q***r and trans folks deserve access to education, healthcare, and support systems regarding s*xual and reproductive health, regardless of others' discomfort with q***r and trans s*xuality).
At Lovering, we are committed to providing you with practical and evidence-based information to help you make your own choices about your s*xual and reproductive health. 💪

Hepatitis education may not be ~glamorous~ but it's necessary! 🦠
Most people born in the U.S. are vaccinated for hepatitis A & B very early on in childhood, or even in infancy! Immunity from these vaccines can sometimes decrease over time, so sometimes your healthcare provider may recommend a hepatitis panel to check for immunity and/or updated vaccination if indicated! 💉
Transmitted through contaminated food/water or oral-fecal route:
🦠 Hep A
🦠 Hep E

Transmitted through BLOOD:
🦠 Hep B
🦠 Hep C
🦠 Hep D

Transmitted through S*X (semen, vaginal secretions, re**al secretions):
🦠 Hep B
People who might be at increased risk for hepatitis infections include people who use injection drugs or share needles for any reason (because of increased exposure to others' blood), condomless s*x with partner(s) whose hepatitis status you don't know, close household contact with someone who has an active hepatitis A or E infection, and not receiving vaccinations for hepatitis when available/recommended! Check out to find out more about their syringe exchange services as well as other harm reduction services for people who use drugs! ♥️

Ask us -- NOT ChatGPT! 🙃
ChatGPT is NOT AN ACCURATE SOURCE for any health information! ‼️ You may have seen the viral posts where people asked ChatGPT to create an image of the reproductive system. Suffice it to say, it was very incorrect. 😂 This doesn't even take into account the recent influx of anti-birth control, anti-abortion, and anti-trans propaganda in legislation across the US (and the internet)! There is soooo much misinformation out there that causes people real harm, and it's important to make sure that you're getting your s*xual health info from a reliable and evidence-based source. Swipe for some excellent and accurate resources you can access online! ➡️
Have questions about s*xual health? You can always ask us! Call us on the phone at (603) 436-7588 OR you can send a message through our HIPAA secure telehealth platform called Klara (accessible from the bottom righthand corner of jglhc.org). ☎️👩‍💻 We're always here for you when you need accurate, inclusive, and thoughtful information to help you make decisions about your healthcare! 💜
