The 5th Annual Cuts of Kindness was a success! 💙✂️

Hosted by our Neighborhood Health team, this free event welcomed 164 community members for a day centered on connection, dignity, and support.

Guests came by for haircuts and styling, warm meals, showers, and access to local resources — and were also able to connect with Hartford HealthCare teams for on-site health screenings and education.

This day was made possible by 35+ HHC volunteers, our dedicated care teams, and incredible local partners who showed up in a big way for the Hartford community.

We’re proud to support the health and well-being of our neighbors. Thank you to everyone who helped make such a meaningful impact!

Celebrating what makes our community strong 🍯

We were proud to support Hartford Taste and the local businesses that help our community thrive. Even more exciting — seeing Keith Grant, VP of Operations, step into the kitchen for a cooking competition using ingredients from our Food4Health garden — a perfect reflection of how food, health, and community come together 🩵

Hartford Hospital was proud to host today’s Dignity Grows “Packing Palooza,” which brought together more than 100 volunteers to assemble thousands of hygiene tote bags that will provide essential support to over 3,000 community members this summer.

Hartford HealthCare team members help identify patients who may benefit from hygiene support, then Dignity Grows totes are distributed every month through Women's Ambulatory Services, the Brownstone Clinic, the Institute of Living, primary care offices, and other community outreach initiatives throughout the Hartford HealthCare system.

Thank you, Dignity Grows and volunteers, for an impactful day!

“My name is Kurt Michael Bordas, BSN, RN, and I am proud to be part of an amazing team of nurses, healthcare professionals and support staff at the Emergency Department for Hartford Hospital!” ♥️

Every step of Kurt Bordas’s story led him exactly where he needed to be.

It began with a young boy from Chile who grew up in a family full of love, compassion, and service. Both of his parents served in the U.S. Air Force — Carl Bordas, Major (Ret.), and Therese Bordas, Captain — and as nurses, they set an early example that would stay with him.

Growing up, Kurt was always someone who looked for ways to help. He volunteered at his local animal shelter, fostered kittens, and built a strong connection to caring for others.

After high school, he followed that instinct and joined the United States Air Force, continuing his family’s path of service. He served for eight years and is an OIF/OEF combat veteran — an experience that shaped his resilience and sense of purpose.

Kurt went on to work in law enforcement and security, continuing to protect and serve his community. Later, while raising a family, he took a different path as a casino table games dealer — meeting people from all walks of life, but still searching for something more meaningful.

With the support of his family, and through reflection and prayer, Kurt made the decision to pursue nursing through an accelerated program at Elms College in Chicopee, MA. That’s when everything fell into place.

Today, Kurt is part of the team at Hartford HealthCare’s Hartford Hospital Emergency Department — bringing together his experiences, his compassion, and his commitment to serving others.
