Remember 1991?
The year where the digital era was just beginning and the World Wide Web went public for the first time. It was also the year the Soviet Union dissolved, Operation Desert Storm was broadcast live, video games like Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog invaded our living rooms, Michael Jordan won his first NBA championship, music from Nirvana to Guns N' Roses to Fresh Prince was popular, and neon windbreakers, slap bracelets, and hypercolor tees were the all the fashion.
1991 is also the year Maryfield Nursing Home was blessed with two of our most loyal and dedicated team members...
Greg Smith and Brian Dunn.
THIRTY-FIVE years ago, Greg joined the Housekeeping Department in a Janitor role in June 1991. He was under the tutelage of Tammy Bull, where he excelled, and was promoted to a Supervisor role in 2003. He continued to grow personally and professionally, helped mentor the team through Culture Change and the first expansion, was promoted to the Environmental Services Director in 2007, and has since built a team of dedicated and long-tenured people who weathered Covid and the most recent expansion together. The Sisters ensured Greg knew that "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" and he strives to keep that same promise to them in everything he does.
THIRTY-FIVE years ago, Brian joined the Dietary team as an Aide and Prep Cook in July 1991. He has weathered many storms with many changes to our dining department! From an institutional kitchen and cafeteria line in the nursing home, to high-quality fine dining with ten kitchens on campus, Brian has kept it all fully stocked with supplies and delicious food every day. Through it all, he has always kept the same calm and caring demeanor we know so well, while delivering excellent customer service.
Congratulations to Greg and Brian on thirty-five years! We are so thankful for your commitment to Pennybyrn and for becoming part of our family. You are this generation's pioneers of our heritage and continue to embrace the history and core values that bind us to our mission. We are so grateful and thankful for you and wish you all the accolades that come with this milestone. You deserve all the applause!
