Tripler Army Medical Center, HI — Tripler Army Medical Center is strengthening its longstanding health partnership with the Republic of Palau through expanded specialty-care coordination, telemedicine, and senior-leader engagement under the Pacific Island Health Care Project.

Earlier this year, a Tripler delegation led by U.S. Army Col. William F. Bimson, director, TAMC, conducted engagements and clinical site visits across the Freely Associated States, including Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands. This visit focused on improving referral pathways for specialty care at TAMC, expanding use of telemedicine, and increasing access to specialized services for veterans living in the region.

With Halloween weekend approaching, here are some Halloween Safety tips for Tripler Army Medical Center community:

SPOOKY NIGHTS, SAFE STREETS
In 2024, nearly half of all fatal Halloween crashes involved alcohol. Let's make 2026 safer.

On Foot & Trick-or-Treating:
Light up the night: Use flashlights, glow sticks, or apply reflective materials.
Use the buddy system: Always travel in groups; never let children or friends walk alone.

Cross safely: Use well-lit crosswalks and intersections, obey signals, and look both ways.
Stick to safe pathways: Walk on sidewalks or face oncoming traffic if roads lack walkways.

Behind the Wheel:
Slow down and stay alert: Drive well below speed limits in residential areas.
Drive sober & focused: Watch for poorly visible pedestrians and unexpected pedestrians.

Parties & Celebrations:
For Guests:
Plan your ride first: Arrange a designated driver, rideshare, or taxi before your first drink.

For Hosts:
Provide alternatives: Stock plenty of non-alcoholic drink options.
Secure safe rides: Help your guests arrange sober transportation and collect keys if necessary.

During American Pharmacists Month, we proudly recognize Julie Puma for receiving the 25-Year Length of Federal Service award.

For 25 years, Puma has served Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), the Military Health System and the Army community with exceptional pharmacy expertise, compassion and Aloha. Her contributions as a pharmacy technician has included helping modernize pharmacy workflows across the military health system, expanding pharmacy services across Oahu, supporting deployed warfighters and ensuring patients received medications during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Yet, if you ask anyone in this room what makes her truly irreplaceable, they will not point to the machines, the computers, or the clinics. They will point to her heart," Chaplain (CPT) Krysta Piper shared. "As a local civilian leader deeply rooted in our island community and connected through volunteerism with the Army and Army Reserve, she is the ultimate bridge between Hawaii and the military. She has mentored generations of local high school students and community college pharmacy technicians, opening doors of opportunity for island youth."

Thank you, Ms. Julie Puma, for your faithful, dedicated and meritorious service to TAMC and the community.
