🟢 Stage 0: Earliest possible diagnosis/pre-cancerous
🟢 Stage I: Small, localized cancer limited to breast tissue
🟡 Stage II: Larger and/or lymph node involvement
🟠 Stage III: More advanced local spread including breast and/or regional lymph nodes
🔴 Stage IV: Spread beyond the breast to other organs

1️⃣. Breast cancer can be found years before you can feel a lump.
Many breast cancers detected on screening mammograms are too small to be felt during a self-exam or clinical breast exam. That's one of the biggest advantages of screening: finding cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage.

2️⃣. Dense breast tissue can make cancer harder to spot on a mammogram.
Dense breast tissue appears white on a mammogram, and breast cancer appears white too. For some women, this can make detecting abnormalities more challenging, which is why breast density is included in mammogram reports.

3️⃣. An abnormal mammogram always doesn't mean cancer.
Many abnormal findings turn out to be benign. Additional imaging or testing is often needed because the radiologist wants a closer look at an area that isn't completely clear on the initial screening.

4️⃣. Today's 3-D mammograms can detect cancers that 2-D mammograms may miss.
Also known as breast tomosynthesis, 3-D mammography takes multiple images of the breast from different angles, giving radiologists a more detailed view than traditional 2-D imaging alone.

5️⃣. Not all breast cancers are found during routine screening.
Some cancers develop or become detectable between scheduled mammograms. These "interval cancers" are one reason it's important to report new breast symptoms to your physician, even if you've recently had a normal mammogram.
