There's no single right answer.

We've seen meaningful services held in chapels, backyards, lakeshores, and living rooms.

We've seen them filled with hymns, jazz, and country music.

We've seen families gather for two hours...and families who needed two days.

What makes a service meaningful isn't the setting or the length.

It's whether the people in that room feel like they truly knew the person being honored.

That's what planning ahead makes possible.

Not a perfect ceremony.

A true one.

If you could choose one thing that would make your service feel like you, what would it be?

It's not about rooftops. It's not about buildings. It's about relationships.

That's what my dad taught us. And it's the reason Ross chose O'Connell Family Funeral Homes to carry on what he built in Spring Valley.

We're not coming in to change things. We're coming in to continue them.

The Gebbings, the Thompsons, Ross Keehr, they created something worth protecting. A community that trusted them. A legacy rooted in integrity and dignity.

That's the O'Connell way. My dad set that standard for my brother Dan and me a long time ago, and we've carried it through Hudson, Baldwin, River Falls, Ellsworth, and now Spring Valley.

Adding another location doesn't change our mission. It just gives us one more opportunity to help more people.

If you have questions or want to learn more, we're here. 🤍

Most people don't expect to end up in tears.

They sit down thinking it will be a quick conversation about paperwork, logistics, details.

And then something shifts.

Because when someone creates the space to really ask, really listen, really go there with you, things come up that you didn't know needed to be said.

That's the work we get to do every day.

A scholarship in Mindy's honor. That's what this night is really about.

"More like Mindy" is raising money for a scholarship, and the community is turning her 40th birthday into an evening that gives back.

Every kickball entry, raffle ticket, and gift basket bid goes toward that fund, with kickball, live music from Half Shebang, and concessions rounding out a night the whole family can enjoy.

Friday, August 21st starting at 5pm at Heartland Park in Hammond. Come support the fund through the raffles and gift basket, or scan the QR code on the flyer to see how else you can help.

We love seeing a community rally behind something this meaningful. Hope to see you there.

August has a way of gathering people.

Family reunions.

County fairs.

One more trip to the cabin before school begins.

These moments often remind us how quickly the years pass, and how meaningful ordinary days really are.

If your family is together this month, you don't have to turn dinner into a planning meeting.

Just ask one meaningful question.

Listen.

Tell a story.

Write down a favorite recipe - the one everyone asks for but no one has written down yet.

Take one more photo.

Sometimes the smallest conversations become the memories we treasure most.

What's one August tradition your family has kept alive over the years?

Thank you for sharing their names with us. 💚

Each name represents a life, a story, and someone deeply loved. We were honored to remember them with you at the Pierce County Fair.

Every family has one.

The person who remembers everyone's birthdays.

The one who tells the stories that make everyone laugh before dessert.

The keeper of family history.

One beautiful part of planning ahead is realizing those stories matter just as much as dates and details.

Before another family gathering slips by, ask someone:

"Tell me the story you've never wanted us to forget."

You might hear something your grandchildren will someday tell their own children.

That's a legacy worth preserving.

Who's the storyteller in your family?

Some days, comfort doesn't come from finding the perfect words.

It comes from a quiet presence.

That's one of the reasons Finnegan is such a special part of our team.

Whether someone is visiting to make arrangements, attend a service, or simply take a deep breath, Finnegan has a remarkable way of reminding people they're not alone.

No speeches.

No expectations.

Just kindness, offered one wagging tail at a time. 🤍

Has an animal ever helped you through a difficult season of life?
