A little heart health education can go a long way! ❤️

Our teams joined the Successful Aging Initiative, hosted by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Alabama A&M University through the Virginia Caples Lifelong Learning Institute, to help older adults learn more about their heart health.

Our Structural Heart team partnered with cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. V. Antoine Keller, founder of HeartSense, to provide heart screenings for 103 individuals. Approximately 30% had findings that warranted further evaluation, highlighting the importance of early detection and access to heart care.

Cardiologist Dr. Kaushik Jain and cardiology pharmacist Emily Powell joined amyloidosis advocate Mike Lane to discuss cardiac amyloidosis, a condition caused by abnormal protein buildup in the heart that can make it harder for the heart to function properly. They shared symptoms to watch for and encouraged attendees to talk with their physicians about testing.

We're grateful for opportunities like this to bring heart health education and screenings directly into our community!

Follow the yellow brick road! 🌈👠✨

Our Pediatric Cardiology team brought a little Wizard of Oz magic to the annual trunk-or-treat hosted by Huntsville Hospital's Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic!

And we couldn't agree more with their theme: There's no place like PCHC (Pediatric Cardiology Heart Center)! ❤️

This special event was sponsored by the Crim Compassion Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation.

Pumpkins, a little friendly competition and leadership on grill duty. That’s how the Heart Center does fall! 🍂🎃

Our team enjoyed corn hole, ring toss, raffle prizes and a pumpkin contest, with the Scheduling Department taking home the bragging rights! 🏆

Struggling to get your blood pressure under control?

For some patients, medication and lifestyle changes aren't enough to manage high blood pressure. That's where the Symplicity blood pressure procedure comes in!

This minimally invasive procedure, now offered at Huntsville Hospital Heart Center, targets overactive nerves near the kidneys that can contribute to high blood pressure.

It's another treatment option for eligible patients with uncontrolled hypertension, helping them take an additional step toward better blood pressure management.

Swipe through to learn more about how it works and talk with your doctor to see if the Simplicity blood pressure procedure may be right for you! ➡️

“The hospital has just been my home away from home.” ❤️

Sheila Wood began her nursing career with us in 1988 and joined the Cath Lab in 1996. As she retired Oct. 9, she leaves a lasting mark on our team and heart care in North Alabama.

One of her proudest accomplishments was helping launch our transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) program in 2014. She helped train colleagues as the program grew and is now its last remaining original Cath Lab team member.

Since those first cases, our team’s work has expanded to include catheter-based mitral and tricuspid valve repairs. For eligible patients, these minimally invasive procedures offer an alternative to open-heart surgery.

TAVR, in particular, has transformed the way we treat patients with aortic valve disease. Without the need for a large chest incision or lengthy hospital stay, many patients can return to most of their daily activities within just a few days.

For Sheila, seeing what that means for patients and their families never gets old. “The thought of that just kind of makes me emotional because of what we’re doing for those patients.”

Those connections are what she’ll miss most: interacting with patients and their families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives and working alongside colleagues who became family.

Please join us in thanking Sheila for more than 35 years of care, leadership and dedication to Huntsville Hospital, and wishing her a happy retirement! ❤️

Meet Dr. Omid Baniahmad, a new cardiac electrophysiologist at the HH Heart Center! ❤️

Originally from Tallahassee, Florida, Dr. Baniahmad’s interest in medicine began at a young age after sports injuries sparked a fascination with anatomy and physiology.

He’s excited to join the Heart Center’s team-first culture and care for patients across our community.

Outside of work, Dr. Baniahmad enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, trail running, cooking Persian food and exploring peaceful places in nature. 🌿

Help us welcome Dr. Baniahmad to the Heart Center team!

Huntsville Hospital’s Structural Heart Program has earned Transcatheter Valve Certification from the American College of Cardiology! ❤️

This certification recognizes programs that demonstrate a commitment to quality, safety and program excellence while following established standards for transcatheter valve care and continually working to strengthen care processes and improve patient outcomes.

Huntsville Hospital is one of only five hospitals in Alabama to hold this certification. This achievement reflects the collaboration, dedication and commitment of our entire Structural Heart team.

Congratulations to everyone who helped make this possible!

Our Renewed Hearts Celebration brought former heart surgery patients back together with the surgeons, nurses and team members who helped care for them along the way.

Every patient’s journey is different, but each one is supported by an entire team working toward the same goal: a successful procedure, a strong recovery and a healthier tomorrow.

Since our first open-heart surgery in 1981, 45 years ago, thousands of patients have trusted us with their hearts. Celebrating their lives after heart surgery is a beautiful reminder of why this work matters.

To our patients: Thank you for allowing us to be part of your stories. You will always be a part of our heart community. You did it!
