Professional support is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Maternal care resources that are available to all only offer so much. There are still gaps and until our country makes them more accessible, itās on you. I donāt agree with this, but there are ways to make it happen. Hereās are some ideas:
1. Professional support makes for a great gift š If you have loved ones willing to purchase you gifts, I bet theyād be glad to contribute to services! Even several $10 gift cards go a long way! Iāve had several clients whose services were paid in full by friends & family. Being able to watch the looks on their faces when theyāre told that... priceless. Itās a gift that is so much more valuable than baby gear!
2. Donāt pay for that big gender reveal party or baby shower without some return. Check out the .. it is brilliant! Iāve also seen people do bets on the babyās born date and split the funds with the winner. There are so many ways to do this! Get creative and have fun with it. People love participating in this kind of stuff especially if they know it will help you out.
3. Hereās where we go back to the main issue, most private insurance companies do not cover independent, professional birth workers (YET šš»). However, there are some that do through the FSA & HSA option if your insurance has that. Best thing to do is talk about it to your insurance provider, pay for your services, and then request a refund. The sharing healthcare options like Medi-Share and Samaritan are *awesome* when it comes to options with these things - so if youāre not pregnant yet, definitely look into this.
4. There are many organizations out there who recognize the burden of out-of-pocket costs and the benefits of them who help make it possible for pregnant people! Google, ask around, get involved in those organizations. offers scholarships quarterly for people desiring doula care. helps provide funding as well.
