An 8-year-old recently came to our office with knee pain and noticeable swelling. There had been no injury, fever, rash, or other symptoms.
We quickly recognized that this wasnโt a typical knee complaint. X-rays confirmed fluid within the joint, and we immediately referred her to a local orthopedist for further evaluation, testing, and diagnosis.

Cases like this are an important reminder that We evaluate the entire musculoskeletal system, and part of responsible patient care is recognizing when something doesnโt fitโand knowing when additional testing or treatment is needed.
The relationships weโve built with trusted specialists throughout our area are also an important part of our practice. When a patient needs care outside our office, those relationships help us quickly connect them with the appropriate provider and keep their care moving in the right direction.
As tick-borne illnesses become an increasing concern in our region, ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ผ๐๐น๐ฑ ๐๐๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ถ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐โeven when there is no known tick bite or obvious rash. Unexplained joint pain or swelling can sometimes be an important clue that something more is going on.
Weโre thankful this young patient received the diagnosis and treatment she needed so quickly, and weโre praying for a full recovery.
