Gerald Ralph Girod

Gerald (Jerry) Ralph Girod was born on October 21, 1939 in Salem, Oregon to Theodore (Ted) Roosevelt Girod and Ruby June Girod (Orey). Jerry was an only child raised on a hop farm at Mission Bottom north of Keizer surrounded by cousins from numerous aunts and uncles. Ted Girod played professional baseball for the Salem Senators and passed his love of the game to his son who would ride his bicycle from Clear Lake School to the local country schools arranging baseball games against other rural communities. His prized childhood possession was a glove autographed by local legend, Bill Beard, that painfully slipped and disappeared from his handlebars on a backcountry ride.

Jerry met and married Linda Lee Hueller at Oregon College of Education (OCE) on March 16, 1962 and raised three sons including Jeff (Megan), Chris (Diedre) and Mark (Tanna). Their home was a place of jovial dinners and endless competitions in made-up sports like blood basketball, knee football, foot races and high jumping in the backyard. Jerry played slow-pitch softball with a gang of locals for 30 years continuing to call these teammates friends and joyfully reminiscing about warm evenings racing around the bases. He was an avid fan and supporter of his kids' sport teams and coached many MIKI (Monmouth Independence Kids Incorporated) baseball teams. Jerry and Linda recently celebrated their 64th anniversary.

Jerry graduated from North Salem High School and served in the Army National Guard at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas before returning to enroll at OCE. He taught at Englewood Elementary School before earning a doctorate in education from Washington State University and joining the faculty at OCE in 1964 as a professor of elementary education. Jerry was a gifted teacher and rose through the faculty ranks retiring as Dean of the College of Education in 1995. Many of his students went on to become lifelong educators, principals, and superintendents across the state.

Jerry leaves a legacy and loving family including his wife Linda, three sons, eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Contributions in his name can be made to the Panther Club supporting Central High School activities at PO Box 84, Independence, OR 97351.

Christina Marie Stutzman

Christina "Tina" (Davis) Stutzman, 82, lived a life shaped by love-love she gave freely and love she received an abundance. Born on August 18th, 1943, in Portland Oregon, she was raised by her parents Harold and Christina Davis. My OK, her compassion and steady kindness guided her towards a career in nursing. She earned her degree in practical nursing from Girls Polytechnic and began working as an LPN. It was there that fate placed freeman in her path, and from that moment forward, their lives were intertwined. They were married on January 27th 1967.

Their love was not loud or dramatic-it was steady, loyal, and deeply rooted. Together they built a life defined by hard work and partnership, managing their businesses side by side for more than 59 years. After working in Fountain Valley, California, for 12 years, they moved to independence, Oregon. In 1981, they purchased an A&W restaurant, which they operated until 1999. Along the way, they traveled, finished, and explored new places, always happiest in each other's company.

Tina's world was brightest when she was surrounded by family. She and freeman raised two sons, Tom and Terry, and later welcomed their wives Tanya and Karin, into the family. She adored her 4 grandchildren- Tori, Ty, Michael, and Megan- who loved her deeply in return. Tina had a special place in her heart for children, and in her honor, the family asked that donations be made to the make a wish foundation in lieu of flowers.

In her final years, Tina experienced a different kind of love story-one defined by devotion and unwavering care. No one was more important to her than freeman, who tended to her every need, every day, with patience and tenderness. His care was the purest expression of love, and it will forever be a part of tina's legacy.

On May 11th 2026, Tina slipped peacefully into God's hands, leaving behind a lifetime of memories that her family and friends will cherish forever. Though she has gone ahead, the love she shared-especially the love she and freeman built-remains unbroken.

A celebration of life will be held in late June 2026 at cornerstone church in Monmouth, Oregon, where her story will continue to be honored by those who loved her most
