This song 🄹 As a pediatric SLP, THIS is what it’s all about. It’s not just about the goals, but the bond between children and the people who love them most..you are the magic. ✨
Everything hallelujah. šŸ™ŒšŸ½

šŸŽ‰ Let’s talk about one of my favorite therapy tools: Super Duper’s Basic Concepts Chipper Chat! ✨ As an SLP, I’m always on the lookout for resources that make learning fun and effective, and this one checks all the boxes.

Whether you’re working on spatial concepts, descriptive language, or following directions, Super Duper’s Chipper Chat keeps kids engaged while targeting those foundational skills we know are so important. Plus, who doesn’t love the interactive element of chips and magnetic wands? It’s a game-changer for keeping little ones motivated!

Have you used it before? I’d love to hear your thoughts! šŸ’¬

Looking for a screen-free AAC option? We’ve been loving the Joyreal device for early learners. It provides a wonderful, tactile way for children to explore communication and find their voice. A huge plus? It comes with pre-programmed phrases, making it an incredible starting point for Gestalt Language Processors. It gives them functional, ready-to-use scripts for daily needs!

We love that it helps build intentional communication through hands-on play. Have you explored screen-free AAC tools with your child? Share your experience below!

Not to brag, but we have the BEST jobs in the world! ā¤ļøšŸ˜Š

Hi! Pediatric SLP & OT, and proud parent coaches here! We help kids find their voice, connect with others, and build meaningful relationships through communication, regulation and PLAY!

As SLPs and OTs, we wear many hats: we teach kids to express their needs, understand others, use AAC, build social skills, build independence, engage with sensory input and so much more! No matter the goals, we ALWAYS focus on helping them feel safe, confident, and connected.

✨Connection is at the heart of communication and function, it’s how we share our thoughts, feelings, and ideas with the world.✨

How can we support kids in building connection and communication?

✨ Honor all forms of communication.
✨ Validate their feelings when they’re expressing themselves.
✨ Use calming, regulating activities to help them feel ready to engage.
✨ Teach them to notice how their body feels when they’re calm or overwhelmed.
✨ Model communication and connection strategies in real time.

When kids feel safe and connected, their communication and functional skills can truly shine, and that’s the magic of what we do! šŸ’¬šŸ’–

Hot Take: Your child’s OT session should look like fun.

Children learn best through play, and we all learn best when we aren’t stressed. Following adult instructions is important, but OT is all about the just-right challenge and meeting the child where they are at. If I plan an AMAZING activity, but a child comes in and isn’t interested, then we won’t be doing that. Forcing will just result in frustration for the child, a non-productive session, and broken rapport. If your child’s OT session looks like fun and games, then your therapist is doing their job.

šŸ”„ Hot Take: Forcing eye contact isn’t connection, it’s compliance, and it’s time to rethink the way we teach communication.

True connection comes from understanding, not control. Every child has their own way of expressing themselves, and it’s our job to meet them where they are.

Let’s focus on building trust, not just checking boxes. šŸ’¬āœØ

ā€œWe’ve been with Valued Voices for almost a year and I can’t say enough wonderful things about their speech therapy team! My son is a Gestalt Language Processor and they’ve made incredible progress with his speech and confidence. They truly understand him and he loves going each week. I’ve already referred several families because I’m such a big fan of their thoughtful and personalized approach.ā€
