Please join us in wishing a very happy birthday to one of our happiest, most determined , Wesley! 🎂💙
Wesley recently turned one, and he's already accomplished so much. Born with Down syndrome, Wesley spent his first week in the NICU, where he was monitored for a slow-closing patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), a congenital heart condition. He has also faced challenges related to low muscle tone (hypotonia), which can affect mobility. Since he was just 4 months old, he's been working hard in physical therapy with one of his biggest cheerleaders — his "bestie," physical therapist Kelly.
Do you see the enthusiasm in Wesley’s face in this video? Well, it’s impossible not to reciprocate his smile when you’re around him because he’s truly an explorer with a zest for life. His mom, Julia, says that Wesley has really benefitted from the rehab and therapy he began at four months old.
“We’ve loved it for Wesley because it gives him access to the best physical therapy and resources to support his growth,” says Julia. “The idea is that even though his body can’t walk yet, his mind still gets the sensation of moving around independently. He’s got a long road ahead, but it’s so great to see how far he’s come!”
With Wesley's determination and our team, we do not doubt that Wesley is going to keep going further and further!
Happy first birthday, Wesley! We can't wait to see where your next adventure takes you. 🎉
