Big leaguers in the making.⚾

We love seeing our community take the field — especially when it's OUR field!

The 10 and under Lamar Baseball team recently made the trip to Springfield and got to play on the CoxHealth Field at Cooper Sports Complex. Let's just say these young players thought that was pretty cool — and honestly, so do we!

Next stop: the majors. We'll be rooting for you the whole way! 🙌

Some heroes wear scrubs... and sometimes they get rewarded with donuts. 🍩💙

A big thank you to a thoughtful patient who recently surprised our team with a box of donuts as a token of appreciation for the care they received. Sweet treats are always welcome, but kind gestures like this mean even more.

Our staff is honored to care for our community, and moments like these remind us why we do what we do.

Thank you for making our day a little sweeter!

We’re pleased to share that CoxHealth was recently named Employer of the Year by the Missouri Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development (MDHEWD).

This award highlights our long-standing commitment to developing talent through registered apprenticeship programs that create meaningful, accessible career pathways in health care. With more than 350 active apprentices, CoxHealth supports growth across a range of in-demand roles, including EMT, medical assistant, certified phlebotomy technician and graduate nurse residency programs.

This recognition came during Missouri Apprenticeship Week, officially designated by Governor Mike Kehoe to highlight the critical role registered apprenticeships play in workforce development and the state’s long term economic growth.

“Registered apprenticeships are a proven, industry-driven training model that opens the door to high quality careers by providing a clear pathway for Missourians to build in-demand skills, advance professionally, and secure long-term success in growing fields,” said Governor Kehoe. “Across Missouri, thousands of apprentices are building the skills needed to support the state’s economy in priority fields such as public safety, agriculture, education, advanced manufacturing, and healthcare.”

Apprenticeships play a critical role in strengthening Missouri’s workforce, pairing hands on learning with mentorship and real world experience. At CoxHealth, these programs are designed to empower individuals at every stage of life, from students entering the field to career changers seeking new opportunities, while ensuring our communities have access to highly-skilled, compassionate caregivers.

This honor reflects the dedication of our teams, mentors and apprentices who invest in learning, leadership and each other every day. We’re grateful to be recognized alongside partners across the state and remain committed to building a strong, sustainable healthcare workforce for the future.

Each year, CoxHealth honors outstanding nurses throughout the health system for their exceptional skills, compassion, leadership, and influence.

Among this year’s honorees was Megan Byram, an emergency department nurse at Cox Barton, who received the CoxHealth Nurse Preceptor Award – Silver.

Megan is recognized for her clinical proficiency, calm demeanor, and dedication to helping others succeed. Whether she is caring for patients in high-pressure emergency situations or mentoring her fellow nurses, she consistently exemplifies the traits of an exceptional preceptor and team member.

In addition to providing excellent patient care, Megan significantly contributed to her department's readiness for the transition to the new electronic medical record as the emergency department’s superuser. Through long hours, diligent effort, and a steady, supportive approach, she ensured that nurses felt prepared and confident throughout the process. Her leadership played a crucial role in alleviating stress and enhancing morale during this important organizational change.

For Beth Harris, providing care for patients in rural areas is not just a career — it’s a personal commitment.

Beth is now seeing patients at the CoxHealth Golden City Clinic, where she brings with her a wealth of experience and a strong connection to the community.

Prior to her role in Golden City, Beth worked at the CoxHealth Medical One Clinic. However, the chance to return to her roots was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up.

Having grown up and gone to school in Lockwood, Beth has always been drawn to rural health care. She now appreciates the opportunity to serve the communities that played a significant role in her upbringing.

“It’s been wonderful to reconnect with people I haven’t seen in many years, including those I grew up with or who know my family,” Beth shares. “There’s something special about providing care in a place that feels like home.”

Beth recognizes the vital role rural clinics play in ensuring care remains close and accessible for patients and their families. She is dedicated to making sure individuals can receive high-quality health care without needing to travel far from home.

The rural health clinic treats a wide range of patients and welcomes walk-in visits. From women’s health to minor injuries, Beth smiles when she says that she has become pretty good at taking fishing hooks from hands.

With her experience and sincere commitment to serving others, Beth and the staff at the CoxHealth Golden City Clinic help patients feel comfortable and cared for from the moment they arrive.

Please join us in congratulating Alice Dulier, LPN, on being recognized with a Daisy Award.

The DAISY Foundation Award is a recognition program that honors nurses who go above and beyond in providing compassionate, extraordinary care to patients and families. Alice was nominated because she consistently demonstrates that level of compassion and dedication in all she does.

One Friday evening after clinic, Alice happened to see a patient at the pharmacy struggling to pick up a prescription following a painful health episode. She immediately stepped in, contacted the provider to help resolve the issue, and stayed with the patient until she received her medication. The patient later called Alice a “godsend.”

That moment is just one example of the care Alice provides daily. She consistently goes above and beyond for patients, checks in on those who may need extra support, and works tirelessly to make sure no one feels alone in their care journey.

Thank you, Alice, for the kindness and teamwork you bring to our patients and community.

Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

It all started with a moment that changed everything.

When Brandee had the chance to witness an open-heart surgery, she knew healthcare wasn't just a career path. It was a calling. That single experience set her on a journey that has spanned nearly two decades and touched the lives of countless patients and families along the way.

Brandee began her career right out of high school as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), spending ten years providing hands-on, compassionate care to patients. Always eager to grow, she took on a new challenge as a pharmacy technician, but after five years, she realized something was missing. She missed the face-to-face connection, the relationships, the moments that remind you why this work matters.

That's what brought her to the Medical One Clinic — first as a receptionist, and then after taking a leap of faith and enrolling in the Medical Assistant program at CoxHealth, she earned her Medical Assistant certification. A decision she calls one of the best she's ever made.

"What I enjoy most is being able to connect with patients and their families while helping care for them during important moments in their lives,” she says.

Those moments of gratitude — when a patient or family member remembers the kindness shown to them — are what fuel Brandee every day. From CNA to pharmacy tech to Medical Assistant, every step of her journey has shaped the skilled, caring provider she is today.

Her "why" is as simple as it is powerful: to make someone's day a little better.

“Whether through compassionate care, a listening ear, or helping a patient feel at ease, I want every person to know they are cared for,” Brandee adds.

The energy was high, and the community showed up strong for the inaugural Cox Barton County Hospital BeFAST 5K in Lamar held last Saturday. With beautiful weather setting the tone, runners and walkers of all ages came together for a shared purpose — promoting health and raising awareness of stroke symptoms.

The event brought the BeFAST message to life, helping participants recognize the warning signs of stroke while encouraging movement, connection, and overall wellness. As a Level III Stroke Center, Cox Barton is committed to delivering timely, life-saving care, and the 5K was a meaningful extension of that mission into the community.

The turnout made one thing clear: Lamar is ready to rally around initiatives that support healthier lives. From seasoned runners to families pushing strollers, the course was filled with encouragement, smiles, and a strong sense of community pride.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the CoxHealth Foundation stroke fund, supporting continued education, resources and care for patients across the region.

For a first-year event, the BeFAST 5K was a tremendous success — and just the beginning. With such an outstanding response, there’s no doubt this race will continue to build momentum for years to come.

Thank you, Barton County!
