Davidson Funeral Home

Davidson Funeral Home Generations of trusted care. Compassionately serving families since 1865. In 1908 a young R. O. Kirkman, Sr. began working for Mr. McCrary and in 1910 Mr. R. A.

Davidson Funeral Home has a long and colorful history of providing funeral service in Lexington and Davidson County. We trace our roots to John McCrary who came to Lexington in 1865 as a cabinet maker and sold coffins in his furniture store. Kirkman graduated from Cincinnati College of Embalming and returned to Lexington as the first licensed embalmer in town. Over the next several decades Mr. Kir

kman operated as McCrary Furniture & Embalmers, Kirkman & Penniger, Lexington Funeral Directors, Kirkman & Son, and in 1940 incorporated as Davidson Funeral Home, Inc. had two sons who followed him in the funeral business. Victor Kirkman and R. Kirkman, Jr. The assumed control of Davidson in 1948 and owned and operated the business until 1989 when they sold the business to Jack & Joan Briggs who have owned and operated Briggs Funeral Home in a neighboring town since 1970, and to Larry Morrison who had been employed with Davidson since 1983. Victor Kirkman died at the age of 88 in 2001 and R. died at the age of 87 in 2005. They both remained licensed by the state board of funeral service until their death and as long as health permitted they continued to work visitations and funerals spanning a period of almost 100 years of the Kirkman Family’s involvement in funeral service in Davidson County. Today, Dan Briggs serves as President of the company, Joan Briggs is Vice President, Jack Briggs is Secretary and Matthew Jernigan is Treasurer. We love and miss former owner Larry Morrison who passed away in 2020.

At Davidson Funeral Home, we understand that every family has different needs, traditions, and financial considerations.

For more than 160 years, families have trusted us to provide compassionate care, professional guidance, and meaningful services that honor the life of their loved one. Whether a family chooses a traditional funeral, cremation, or something in between, our commitment remains the same: to provide exceptional service at a fair and reasonable cost.

Many people are surprised to learn that personalized service, experienced staff, modern facilities, and attention to detail do not have to come with an overwhelming price tag. Our team works hard to help families create meaningful tributes while respecting their wishes and budget.

When the time comes to make arrangements, we encourage families to ask questions, compare options, and choose the funeral home that best serves their needs. We are honored every time a family places their trust in us, and we remain committed to serving our community with the same hometown care that has defined Davidson Funeral Home for generations.

Many families don't realize that our Hickory Tree Chapel offers more than a place to gather for a service.

Following a funeral or memorial service, families often want additional time together to share a meal, tell stories, reconnect with loved ones, and support one another. To make that easier, we can transform our chapel into a comfortable reception space right here on-site.

Whether you choose a simple gathering with refreshments or a catered meal, our team can help coordinate the details, arrange the room, and work with local caterers so your family can focus on what matters most, being together.

By keeping everything in one location, family and friends can continue fellowship without the need to travel to another venue.

If you'd like to learn more about reception options at our Hickory Tree Chapel, we're always happy to help.

Today we want to take a moment to honor Wendell Haselden.

Wendell has been faithfully serving families with us since 2011, and his impact goes far beyond the years. He leads with compassion, works hard behind the scenes, and shows up for families in some of their hardest moments with a steady and caring presence.

What makes Wendell so special is his ability to truly connect. Having walked through loss himself, he understands what families are feeling in a real and personal way, and that empathy shows in everything he does. He doesn’t just do the job well, he cares deeply.

Wendell is also a devoted husband and father, and you can see those values of love and family carry over into how he serves others every day.

We are incredibly grateful to have Wendell on our team and in our community. His heart, his work ethic, and his commitment to serving others make a difference that truly matters.

If Wendell has helped your family, we’d love for you to share a kind word or memory below.
