Researchers at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine and Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute made a breakthrough while studying a new therapeutic strategy for blood cancer that may lead to better future treatment options.

Young researchers are studying multiple myeloma in the continuing efforts to treat this disease. University of Arkansas student Joan Obi presented a poster titled “Investigating the Role of Notch3 in Dormant Multiple Myeloma Cells” at the recent Arkansas Undergraduate Summer Research Symposium. Obi works in the lab of Jesus Delgado-Calle, Ph.D. of the UAMS College of Medicine, with assistance from UAMS Graduate School Ph.D. candidate Bethany Paxton. Outstanding!

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) surpassed its highest fundraising year, raising more than $44 million through gifts and philanthropic grants in the 2026 fiscal year, breaking the previous record of $41.57 million set in 2020.
