What you believe about birth matters.

Those beliefs are shaped by the stories you’ve heard, the experiences you’ve witnessed, and the messages you’ve received about your body and its capabilities.

But not every belief you carry into birth is one you have to keep.

Part of preparing for birth is getting curious about those beliefs, questioning where they came from, and deciding whether they still serve you.

What’s one belief about birth you’ve had to unlearn?

Being convenient is overrated.

You are allowed to take up space. To have an appointment that is longer than 10 minutes. To develop a real connection to your doctor.

You are allowed to be crystal clear about your options. You are allowed to have and express emotions about your care.

You are not a difficult patient for asking for more time and explanations.

You deserve more than a quick “this is what we recommend” before moving on to the next appointment.

🤰 PREGNANT MAMAS: Save this as your reminder before your next prenatal appointment. And tell me in the comments: What’s ONE question you’ve been wanting to ask your OB but haven’t felt comfortable bringing up?

Let’s normalize asking the questions that deserve answers. 👇

Dilation is hardly the whole game. It’s a piece of the puzzle. You can be fully dilated but if your baby is up high, you still have a loooonnggg way to go!

Doulas don’t guarantee an outcome. What they *should* guarantee is that your felt supported and guided no matter how your birth unfolds.

A doula meets you where you’re at, and sometimes can gently guide you to where she’s hearing your want to go, but ultimately this is your ride and she’s just sitting sh***un explaining the map.

Be open to changing your mind…and your birth plan.

Nothing has humbled me and challenged my assumptions more than birth. And if someone is promising you a certain type of birth through their program, mindset, hacks, philosophy, I’m here to tell you they are full of it.

I believe a positive birth experience, requires education, flexibility, embodying your authority in the decision-making process, and unbiased support.

what assumptions about birth? Are you ready to let go of?

We’ve got beds that can do approximately 47 different things… but where are the birth stools? 👀

Women have been using birth stools for centuries. They’re a simple tool that allows for upright birthing positions, uses gravity, and gives the pelvis freedom to move.

When I attend out-of-hospital births, the birth stool is used 9 out of 10 times. They may not birth there but it certainly helps with pushing.

And yet, walk into many hospital birth rooms and what’s the centerpiece?

The bed.

Now, I’m not saying everyone should give birth on a stool. Or that hospital beds don’t have an important purpose. They absolutely do.

But here’s what I AM asking:

What would hospital birth look like if we designed birth spaces around how women actually labor, rather than expecting women to adapt to the space?

More options. More movement. More flexibility. More support for physiological birth.

Sometimes supporting birth doesn’t require revolutionary technology.

Sometimes it just requires a stool. 🪑

Did your hospital have a birth stool? Would you have wanted the option?

The village used to be a 10-year-old girl with a copy of Green Eggs and Ham. 😂

Apparently supporting mothers and taking care of babies was always going to be my career path.
