Today the The Washington Post and Erica Sloan elevated the reality of early onset colorectal cancer to the headlines.

We’ll be seeing it again and again, unfortunately, as the rise of people in their 20s, 30s and 40s climbs.

So grateful to Sage Collins and Colorectal Cancer Alliance for sharing her story bravely-it’s not easy to share out loud. And for our founder of the BE SEEN Movement, Marisa Meyer Peters and Kimmie Ng on our medical advisory council, for fearlessly leading the early-onset mission. This disease better be scared because our movement is coming.

If this catches your attention, we are growing our volunteer-let effort at Be Seen Foundation to one by one, eradicate death by going unseen. We need you and can’t realize our mission alone.

🐝 One bee at a time, swarming, previving and surviving beyond cancer. Thank you to the media and journalists who continue to help raise awareness and educate. Read at WaPo for the full piece.

Some say the sign of a true friend is encouraging you to be your best self. That notion materialized for Jenny when her good friend shared a postcard serving as a reminder to be screened for colorectal cancer. They spoke about prevention and, much to Jenny’s surprise, she learned not only how it’s important, but that it’s very easy! To keep the conversation on the forefront of her mind and ensure it not be forgotten, Jenny kept the postcard on her dresser.

Being a dad helped Dan see how crucial it is to Be Seen if he wants to see his four children grow up and thrive. Between work, supporting his children in their after school activities, coaching multiple sports teams, volunteering in the community, and spending time with his superstar wife, Dan had been putting his health below everything. It was through his children and Be Seen that he realized that he needed to prioritize his health so that he can keep doing all of the other important things in his life.

As BE SEEN CARES Month comes to a close, I’ve been thinking about what it really means to care. We spend so much of our lives caring for our families, our friends, our communities, and the people who need us most. Being a person who really shows up.

But caring also asks something of us. And of those people who stand alongside us, like Jennifer Karrels Provencher has as a board director and friend. She has taught me so much about self care and noninvasive modalities that are the core of Beach Cities Cryo & Wellness mission of care.

It asks us to pause.
To rest.
To recover.
To nourish our bodies.
To protect our peace.
To make the appointment we’ve been putting off.
To listen when our bodies whisper before they have to scream.

Self care isn’t selfish. It’s how we stay well enough to keep showing up for the people we love.

As a survivor, I’ve learned that recovery isn’t a destination. It’s a practice. Sometimes it looks like movement. Sometimes it looks like stillness. Sometimes it’s giving voice to loneliness and silence. Sometimes it looks like asking for help. Sometimes it’s speaking up.

Thank you to every person who made BE SEEN CARES Month so meaningful. To everyone who shared your story, hosted a salon, donated, volunteered, advocated, or simply reminded someone they matter, thank you.

Let’s keep caring.

For each other.
For our communities.
And for ourselves.

Because being seen starts with seeing ourselves.

When people think about cancer, they often think about the person diagnosed.

What they don’t always see is the ripple effect.

A diagnosis touches spouses, children, parents, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and entire communities. It changes conversations around dinner tables. It impacts schools, workplaces, and the people who love someone enough to walk beside them through uncertainty.

That is why I care about BE SEEN.

Because this work is bigger than one person.

It is about helping people get screened before cancer ever enters the picture. It is about making sure symptoms are not ignored. It is about creating a community where people know they are not alone.

At Spark Features, we believe stories have the power to change behavior, create connection, and save lives. We have seen what happens when people share their experiences and others decide to take action because of them.

Today, on BE SEEN CARES Day, I invite you to join us.

Record a short video and finish this sentence:

“I care about BE SEEN because…”

Post it, tag , and invite three people to do the same.

Because when one person cares, it creates a ripple.

And ripples change lives.
