👋🏾 Phoenix-metro, Arizona families, it's time for us to gather again!

🎨 Registration is now open for The Art Room: Deaf Kids Create, an event brought to you in partnership with Deafinitely Communicating and the Melanated Deaf Visual Arts Project (MDVAP). 🧡

We are excited to invite deaf and hard of hearing children and youth and their families to an evening of creativity inspired by De'VIA (Deaf View/Image Art), an art movement that expresses the Deaf experience, culture, and identity through visual art.

Kids will take part in a De'VIA mini workshop, learn about Deaf artists and the ideas behind De'VIA, and then create a masterpiece of their own with the support of local Deaf artists.

Spots are limited. Only 20 seats available.

As our 2026 ABCs of Deaf Education Series and celebration of Deaf Awareness Month comes to an end, we want to say THANK YOU to everyone who made this month's series possible.

To the Deaf and hard of hearing creators, professionals, educators, parents, children, youth, interpreters, advocates, and community members who shared your stories, work, and perspectives, thank you for saying yes and allowing us to spotlight you and the diversity within the deaf and hard of hearing community.

To everyone who shared a post, shared a story, tagged a friend, commented, sent a message, followed along, or silently learned something new this month, thank you too!

The ABC series is a passion project we started roughly 4 years ago with a simple goal: to amplify deaf and hard of hearing voices, perspectives, and stories, educate families and the professionals who worth with them, and advocate alongside the DHH community.

Deaf Awareness month and the ABC series may be over, but the work NEVER stops.

In her reel, Lisa, a Deaf performer, educator, and visual storyteller, shared an ABC story that shared a vision for a new era filled with creativity, connection, and possibility for Deaf artists, families, and the Deaf and hard of hearing community. She ended with a personal message and reminded the Deaf community - “Our stories deserve to be seen. Our contributions deserve to be celebrated. Together, we can shape our future. OUR STORIES. OUR FUTURE.”

Deaf Awareness Month officially ended yesterday, September 30th. We spent the month spotlighting Deaf professionals, Deaf content creators, Deaf advocates, Deaf children and youth, parents of Deaf and hard of hearing children, and the professionals who serve them. The month ended. The work continues.

To close out the month, Lisa McBee, a Deaf performer, educator, and visual storyteller shares this ABC story and a special note.

“My ABC story carries a vision for a new era filled with creativity, connection, and possibility for Deaf artists, families, and our community.

For Deaf Awareness Month, I’m celebrating our stories and the power of ASL to bring people together. Let’s support one another, grow recognition within and beyond the Deaf community, and build stronger bridges between Deaf and hearing people.

Our stories deserve to be seen. Our contributions deserve to be celebrated. Together, we can shape our future.

Hello! My name is Jarrius, and J7 is my sign name.

I am Deaf, I use ASL, and I love sports!

Many people think deaf people are incapable of doing things.

NOPE!

I can play football. 🏈
I can play baseball — I’m a pitcher! ⚾
I can play basketball. 🏀

I work hard, learn, compete, and never give up!

✨ Meet Sharon!

In her reel, Sharon, Co-Founder & Clinical Director of Deaf Counseling Center, had a specific message for hearing professionals - Zoom Out. Instead of ‘fixating on hearing and speech abilities’, Sharon reminded hearing professionals to see Deaf people as whole. When this happens, hearing professionals get a much fuller, authentic, and realistic picture of Deaf people.

Z is for … ZOOM OUT!
Hearing people, particularly hearing professionals working with the Deaf population, need to remember to Zoom Out when meeting Deaf people. See the Deaf person as a whole person, instead of fixating on hearing and speech abilities. When you Zoom Out, you get a much fuller, authentic, and realistic picture of the Deaf person.

Z is for … ZENITH!

All deaf and hard-of-hearing children are capable of reaching their zenith. In our collective work, we want to encourage “AND” for deaf children’s language acquisition rather than “OR” to give them all the possible language opportunities. Depending on their language journeys, each deaf child’s Zenith will look different but they all deserve to achieve it!
